St. John Bosco sweeps Highland Updated ST. JOHN BOSCO GIRLS & BOYS BASKETBALL SCHEDULE FOR 2022-23This past week the St. John Bosco Patriots boys basketball team lost at Grangeville Monday, Jan. 9, 50-64, in a non-league game then bounced back with a 63-50 league win over Highland at Craigmont on Thursday, Jan. 12. They were to play Coeur du Christ Saturday, Jan. 14 at Highland but we have no score available. Meanwhile the girls team had just one game and they recorded their first league win, 37-19 at Highland on Thursday, Jan. 12. Boys at Grangeville In the boys game at
Grangeville the Bulldogs took a 10-17 lead by the end of the first
quarter and expanded the lead to 16-30 by halftime.The Patriots outscored the Bulldogs 18-13 in the third quarter but still trailed 34-43. Grangeville then outscored the Patriots 16-21 in the final farm. The Patriots had 3 players in double figures led by Cody Wassmuth who had 14 points. Torry Chmelik added 13 points and Clay Weckman scored 12. Luke Stubbers added 6 points while Levi Wassmuth scored 4 and Matthew Warren scored 1. Carter Mundt led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Girls at Highland The girls game at Highland got off to a slow start as the two teams were tied 5-5 at the end of the first quarter.SJB outscored the Huskies 9-4 in the second quarter to take a 14-9 lead at the half. The Patriots dominated the third quarter, outscoring Highland 13-4 to take a 27-13 lead into the final period. They outscored Highland 10-6 in the fourth. Sarah Waters led the team in scoring with 16 points and added 11 rebounds and 8 steals. Julia Wassmuth also stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, 8 steals and 8 rebounds. Serinah Palmer added 5 points while Vivian Dahlsrud scored 2. The Patriots are now 2-7 overall and 1-4 in league play. fast start in their game at Highland as they outscored the Huskies
28-11 in the first quarter. That was the most points the Patriots have
had in a quarter all season. In the second quarter the Patriots outscored the Huskies just 10-9 to take a 38-20 halftime lead. The second half saw the Huskies chipping away at the lead but the Patriots had put them into too deep of a hole in that big first quarter. Highland outscored ST. John Bosco 10-13 in the third quarter and 15-17 in the fourth. The Patriots again had 3 players score in double figures led by Weckman who scored 19 points. He also led with 8 rebounds.
