The Pirates couldn’t get any offense going as they lost at Kamiah 17-59 Tuesday, Jan. 24. They were to play Potlatch Friday, Jan. 27 but that game was postponed due to illness among the Potlatch players. The Pirates started well as Shane Hanson scored on a putback and after Kamiah tied it, Lee Forsmann connected for a 3-pointer from the corner. Kamiah then scored the last 14 points of the first quarter to take a 5-16 lead. They then scored the first 5 of the second quarter to complete a 0-19 run. Prairie finally broke their dry spell with a basket by Noah Behler. Kamiah then went on a 0-10 run with Kaden DeGroot scoring all 10 points for the Kubs. Hanson scored on a turn-around bank shot to break that run. Kamiah then scored 3 straight as they took a 9-34 lead at the half. The Kubs scored 4 straight to open the second half before Behler hit a 3-pointer. After 4 more Kamiah points, Prairie got their only back-to-back scores of the game as Forsmann sank a free throw and Hanson then scored on a putback to make it 15-42. Kamiah answered with 4 straight points then Hanson made a pair of free throws. Those free throws wound up being Prairie’s final points of the game. Kamiah ended the third quarter with a basket for a 17-48 lead. They then outscored the Pirates 0-11 in a running clock fourth quarter. Hanson wound up with 8 points to lead the Pirates. Behler scored 5 and Forsmann scored 4. Rebounding was even at 23-23. Hanson had 7 to lead the Pirates while Forsmann had 6. Matt Wemhoff and Trenton Lorentz each had 2 steals while Wemhoff, Riley Shears and Lorentz each had an assist. Prairie was 6 for 30 from the field, 20%, and 3 for 6 at the line, 50%. Kamiah was 24 for 45 from the field, 53%, and 9 for 11 at the line, 82%. Prairie is now 4-11 on the season and 3-7 in league play. Prairie also lost the JV game to the Kubs.
