Lady Pirates win twice The
Prairie Lady Pirates closed out their regular season with 3 home wins
last week. On Tuesday, Jan. 24, they beat Troy 81-17. On Thursday, Jan.
26, they beat Kamiah 54-25. Finally on Friday, Jan. 27, they beat
Potlatch 85-24 on Senior Night. The Potlatch game was rescheduled from
earlier in the season due to illness. Vs. Troy This was quite a different game
from the one played at Troy 3 days earlier. Prairie played a much
cleaner game and totally shut down the Troy offense this time.Troy actually scored first but Prairie then scored the next 25 straight points. Kylie Schumacher got Prairie started with a pair of baskets. Tara Schlader then scored 7 straight points. She hit 3 of 4 at the line then scored a pair of lay-ups. Kristin Wemhoff scored a lay-up and then stole the ball and fed it to Schlader for another lay-up. Alli Geis made a short bank shot then Wemhoff, Schlader and Kylie Schumacher each scored to give Prairie a 23-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Prairie forced 17 first quarter turnovers and allowed Troy to attempt just 5 shots and 2 of those were blocked with Wemhoff and Kylie Schumacher each picking up a blocked shot. Lexi Schumacher then started the second quarter scoring with a basket to make it 25-2. Troy finally broke their nearly 9 minute dry spell with a 3-pointers. Prairie answered with a pair of baskets by Kylie Schumacher and a steal and drive for a lay-up by Schlader. After 2 Troy free throws, Prairie had another big scoring run with 19 straight points. Schlader scored two baskets. Kylie Schumacher scored a putback. Wemhoff scored inside and followed with a 3-point play. Riley Enneking scored a pair of baskets then Lexi Schumacher Schlader each scored to closed out the run and give Prairie a 50-7 lead. Troy scored in the final seconds of the half to make it 50-9 at the break. Lexi and Kylie Schumacher each scored to open the second half. Troy then scored their only back-to-back baskets of the game as they hit a 3-pointer followed by a 2 pointer. Prairie answered with 6 straight points on a basket by Enneking and 2 baskets by Lexi Schumacher. After a Troy free throw, Prairie scored 12 straight points. Wemhoff started it with 2 free throws. Sage Elven scored a lay-up then Wemhoff scored a putback. Schlader scored on a hook shot and Elven scored another lay-up. Kylie Schumacher scored a lay-up to make it 72-15. Troy closed out the third quarter scoring with an inbounds play that turned out to be their final points of the game. With a 72-17 lead, the fourth quarter was played with a running clock. Prairie outscored Troy 9-0 in the final frame. Sydney Shears made 2 free throws and then scored a basket. Geis scored a putback. Schlader scored on an inbounds feed from Kaylie Lockett and Lexi Schumacher finished things off with a free throw. Schlader had a double-double with 23 points and 11 steals. Kylie Schumacher scored 16. Wemhoff had a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists. Lexi Schumacher scored 11 points as Prairie had 4 players score in double figures. Enneking scored 6 with Geis, Elven and Shears scoring 4 each. Prairie dominated the boards 30-18. Enneking led the Pirates with 8 rebounds. Schlader’s 11 steals led the team while Wemhoff had 7, Kylie Schumacher 6 and Lexi Schumacher 5 as Prairie forced Troy into 47 turnovers. Prairie was 36 for 65 from the field, 55%, and 9 for 12 at the line, 75%. Troy was 6 for 20 from the field, 30%, and 3 for 5 at the line, 60%. In the 2-quarter JV game Prairie rolled to a 42-2 win meaning they gave up 2 total points to Troy in 2 games. Both of those points were free throws. Prairie jumped out to a 20-0 lead before Troy scored their first point in 2 games at the line. Prairie then closed the first quarter with a 12-0 run for a 32-1 lead at the end of the quarter. Sage Elven scored 10 in the quarter while Aubree Rehder, Sydney Shears and Elizabeth Severns each scored 6 and Kaylie Lockett and Avery Riener scored 2 each. Since 2 quarter games are played like it’s the second half, the second quarter was played with a running clock. Severns opened the second quarter scoring then Troy scored their second free throw of the game. Prairie finished the game with an 8-0 scoring run. Elven and Severns each scored 10 points to lead the team. Rehder and Shears scored 6 each. Ellie Nuxoll and Riener scored 4 each and Lockett scored 2. Prairie dominated the boards 27-4 led by Nuxoll who had 8 rebounds. Elven and Severns each added 5. Shears had 5 steals and Lockett and Elven each had 3 assists. Kamiah As it was against Troy, the second time around against Kamiah the Lady Pirates played a stronger game. Prairie jumped out to a 17-4 lead by the end of the first quarter whereas they trailed much of the first quarter at Kamiah a week earlier. Prairie upped the lead to 29-13 by halftime and it was 41-16 after 3 quarters. Prairie outscored Kamiah 13-9 in the fourth quarter. Wemhoff and Lexi Schumacher each had 19 points to lead Prairie in scoring. Schlader scored 9 while Elven scored 3 and Hailey Hanson and Kylie Schumacher each scored 2. Schlader led the Lady Pirates in rebounds with 11 and assists with 6. Wemhoff added 8 rebounds for the Pirates. Prairie also won a 2-quarter JV game 16-7. Potlatch, seniors Wemhoff, Schlader and Enneking, along with senior
stats keeper Chloe Rowland were honored on Senior Night.Enneking, who is usually the first or second player to sub in off the bench in a normal game, started in place of Hanson. It was only 3 minutes into the game before all 3 senior players had scored. Sophomore Lexi Schumacher started the scoring with a basket after a steal by Wemhoff. Wemhoff then made a pair of free throws. Enneking scored on a putback and then with 5:09 left in the quarter, Schlader scored on a putback. That was the start of a 26-0 run by Prairie to open then game. As in the previous two games, the home game against Potlatch was a lot more lopsided than the road game. At Potlatch the Loggers repeatedly scored on backdoor lay-ups. This game they scored just a couple times on those plays. After Schlader’s putback Lexi Schumacher sank a 3 then Wemhoff stole the inbounds pass and scored. Lexi Schumacher scored a lay-up then Wemhoff scored a pair of lay-ups. Schlader scored inside then Wemhoff made a free throw. Two more baskets by Schlader closed out the game-opening blitz. Potlatch finally got on the scoreboard on a putback with 30 seconds to play in the quarter. Potlatch then scored to open the second quarter. Lexi Schumacher answered that with a perimeter shot. After another Potlatch basket, Prairie scored 6 straight points. Schlader scored aputback and Lexi Schumacher scored two baskets. After another Potlatch score, Prairie scored 14 straight points. Baskets were scored by Schlader, Lexi Schumacher, Schlader, Shears, Schlader, Schlader and Geis as Prairie took a 48-8 lead. Potlatch scored a free throw to make it 48-9 at the half. Prairie opened the third quarter with a 13-0 run. Baskets were scored by Wemhoff, Schlader, two baskets by Wemhoff and then a 3 by Lexi Schumacher that made it 61-9. Potlatch then had a stretch where they outscored Prairie 4-6 before Prairie put together an 8-0 run to make it 73-15. Geis, Wemhoff and Elven scored baskets and Kaylie Lockett scored 2 free throws. Potlatch hit a 3 to make it 73-18 after 3 quarters. The entire fourth quarter was played with a running clock. Coach Lori Mader set things up so she could have each senior get subbed out of the game to applause by the crowd and a hug from the coach. Schlader wound up leading the scoring with 24 points and added 11 rebounds and 7 steals. Lexi Schumacher scored 20 points and had 5 steals. Wemhoff just missed a triple-double with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 10 steals. She also had 6 assists. Geis scored 6 points with Enneking and Lockett scoring 4 each. Kylie Schumacher, Elven and Shears each scored 2. Prairie dominated the glass 43-29. The Pirates connected on 38 of 80 field goal attempts, 48%, and 5 of 8 free throws, 63%. Potlatch was 10 for 33 from the field, 30%, and 4 for 12 at the line, 33%. Prairie finishes their season with a record of 13-1 in league play and 16-4 overall. They will be the #2 seed into District and will play Troy at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cottonwood in the District opener. There was no JV game played. The JV had a game Wednesday, Jan. 25 at Clarkston and won that game 44-10.
