Native American Boarding School Experience Dr. Robbie Paul will present “Grandfather’s Trunk: Spirit of Survival. Three Generations of the Paul Family’s Native American Boarding School Experience” at the Nez Perce National Historical Park on March 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm. Dr. Paul will share her family’s journey of researching and discovering the three generations of the Jesse Paul, Ka-khun-nee (Black Raven) family story, tracing back to pre-Carlisle Indian Industrial Boarding School to great-great-grandfather Chief Ut-sin-malikan, who was born in 1793. The U.S. Government established Native American boarding schools across the United States beginning in the late nineteenth centuryto assimilate Indigenous youth into mainstream American culture through education. Dr. Paul’s talk will share her family’s history with and experiences in these boarding schools. Nez Perce National Historical Park’s Spalding Visitor Center is located 12 miles east of Lewiston at 39063 U.S. Highway 95. Park admission is free year round.
