Lady Pirates advance to District Championship game
The Prairie Lady Pirates won their first
two District Tournament game and will play Lapwai for the District
Championship on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Lewiston High School. They opened District play with a 64-14 win over Troy Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Cottonwood. On Saturday, Feb. 4, they took a 15 point lead into the fourth quarter against Kamiah and held on for a 40-34 win. Vs. Troy In the district opener
against Troy the Lady Pirates jumped out toa 9-0 lead. Lexi Schumacher
opened the scoring with a 3-pointer just 17 seconds into the game. ![]() Troy broke into the scoring column with 2 free throws then Prairie scored 7 straight to finish off the first quarter. Lexi Schumacher drove to the hoop for a lay-up then Wemhoff sank a 3-pointer. Wemhoff made it 16-2 with a drive to the hoop for a lay-up. Prairie scored the first 3 points of the second quarter as Wemhoff made a free throw and Kylie Schumacher scored a lay-up. After a Troy free throw, Riley Enneking scored when she putback her own missed shot. After Troy’s Dericka Morgan made 3 of 5 free throws, Prairie closed out the half with a 9-0 run for a 30-6 halftime lead. Enneking scored a free throw then Wemhoff scored 3 straight baskets. Kylie Schumacher scored the final basket of the half. Troy scored only free throws in the first half as they were 0 for 9 from the field. They also had a whopping 29 turnovers in just the first half. Lexi Schumacher hit a bank shot to open the second half scoring then Troy finally made their first basket of the game. Prairie then went on a 19-1 run before Troy made their second, and last, basket of the game. Prairie meanwhile hit 12 of 18 shots in the third quarter as they took a 58-13 lead into the fourth. Lexi Schumacher scored 9 points in the quarter while Wemhoff scored 7. Kylie Schumacher scored 4 while Tara Schlader, Hanson, Sage Elven and Alli Geis scored 2 each. In the fourth quarter Troy scored a free throw to open the scoring then Prairie scored the game’s final 6 points. Wemhoff scored a pair of lay-ups and Schlader made 2 free throws. Wemhoff wound up with 25 points to lead the scoring. She also had 10 rebounds, 8 steals and 4 assists, leading the team in all categories. Lexi Schumacher scored 16 points. Kylie Schumacher scored 8 with Schlader and Hanson scoring 4 each. Enneking scored 3 and Elven and Geis scored 2 each. Prairie dominated the boards 45-27. Schlader added 5 steals and 3 assists. Prairie was 27 for 64 from the field, 42%$, and 7 for 22 at the line, 32%. Troy was 2 for 19 from the field, 11%, and 10 for 22 at the line, 45%. Troy had 42 turnovers in the game. Prairie dominated the middle two quarters 27-8 to offset getting
outscored 13-26 in the first and fourth quarters.![]() Kamiah scored a basket to take the lead but Lexi Schumacher tied it with a lay-up. Kamiah then went on a 0-6 run for a 9-15 lead. Wemhoff closed out the first quarter with a lay-up to make it 11-15. Prairie dominated the scoring in the second quarter as they opened it with a 15-0 run. Kamiah didn’t score until making a free throw with 6 seconds left. Schlader picked up her third foul early on in the quarter then scored on a hook shot. Wemhoff scored on a full-court drive to tie the game at 15. Schlader then picked up her fourth foul and went to the bench for the final 5:34 of the half. Wemhoff hit a 12 foot jumper to give Prairie the lead and Elven followed with a pair of free throws. Lexi Schumacher scored a basket then Kylie Schumacher scored a pair of baskets before picking up her third foul. Wemhoff scored a free throw with 18 seconds left to make it 26-15. Kylie Schumacher then picked up her fourth foul that led to Kamiah’s lone point of the quarter. Coach Lori Mader took a chance in starting Kylie in the second half while leaving Schlader on the bench. Schumacher wound up fouling out a little more than a minute into the third quarter. Prior to that Hanson sank a 3-pointer and Wemhoff scored to make it 31-16. Kamiah then scored 7 straight points, 5 at the free throw line, to cut their deficit to 31-23. Prairie got back on the scoreboard as Lexi Schumacher hit a 3-pointer and Schlader made a lay-up. Hanson closed out the third quarter with a pair of free throws for a 38-23 lead. Prairie scored just 2 points in the fourth quarter, a basket by Wemhoff with 2:21 to play. Prior to that Kamiah had scored 6 straight points, including a 3-pointer by freshman Emma Krogh. Schlader fouled out with 3:13 to play leaving Prairie without either of their starting post players. Kamiah scored the game’s final 5 points, all by Krogh, to cut the final margin to 6. Each team was whistled for 19 fouls in the contest as the Kubs had 3 players finish with 4 fouls while Prairie had a pair with 3 fouls each in addition to the 2 that fouled out. Wemhoff wound up with 15 points to lead the Pirates in scoring. Lexi Schumacher scored 7, Hanson and Kylie Schumacher 6 each, Schlader 4 and Elven 2. Krogh led Kamiah with 18 points, 17 of them in the second half and 10 of Kamiah’s 11 in the final quarter. Prairie had a 40-36 edge on the boards with Wemhoff grabbing 12 to lead the Pirates while Kylie Schumacher had 8. Wemhoff had 4 steals while Schlader had 3.
