St. John Bosco girls and boys each lose
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots had their season ended by Nezperce with a 25-40 loss in District Tournament play at Lapwai on Thursday, Feb. 9. On that same night the boys team lost to Grangeville 47-57 at Craigmont.
The boys had a senior night game scheduled for Friday, Feb. 10 against Meadows Valley at Craigmont but that game got cancelled as Meadows Valley was unable to get to Craigmont due to Highway 95 being closed. That game was rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 17 and then cancelled again. Senior Night celebration will take place at the school after District.
Girls vs. Nezperce
The Lady Patriots had lost twice to Nezperce during the season but came out strong and looked like they might turn that around.
SJB outscored Nezperce 13-4 in the first quarter as Julia Wassmuth and Sarah Waters each had a 3-pointer and 5 points while Serinah Palmer scored 3.
The end of the quarter though seemed to kill all their momentum as Nezperce came out and scored 11 straight points to open the quarter and take their first lead of the game at 13-15.
Vivian Dahlsrud finally broke through for the Patriots with a pair of free throws to tie the score but Nezperce answered with a basket to retake the lead. Waters scored a free throw to end the first half with Nezperce holding a 16-17 lead.
Nezperce scored first in the third quarter but Waters and Wassmuth each scored a basket to give SJB the lead again at 20-19. Nezperce then took control with a 0-8 run as SJB was held scoreless for 5½ minutes before Waters made a free throw that made it 21-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
Nezperce scored first to open the fourth quarter but Wassmuth answered back with a 3 pointer that cut the lead to 5. However the Patriots went ice-cold after that as Nezperce scored 11 straight points before Claire Uhlenkott scored the final point of the game at the free throw line.
Wassmuth wound up with 10 points to lead the Patriots in scoring. Waters scored 9 while Palmer scored 3. Dahlsrud scored 2 and Uhlenkott scored 1.
