Pirates shut out Lapwai
Noah Behler tossed a 2-hit shutout as the Prairie Pirates picked up their first win of the season, 13-0 over Lapwai at the Field of Dreams in Clarkston Thursday, March 16. Noah Behler tossed a 2-hit shutout against Lapwai.
The game was called after 5 innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Prairie got off to a good start with a big first inning.
Cody Kaschmitter led off with a single up the middle. He stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error.
Colton McElroy reached on a passed ball on strike 3 and went to second when the catcher’s throw to first got away. He went to third after having to wait for Eli Hinds’ bloop double to right to fall. McElroy then scored when he stole home. Behler was hit by a pitch and after an out, Jake Quintal was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Phil Schwartz was walked to force in Hinds with a run. Dylan Uhlenkott looped a single over second to score Behler. Kaden Duclos beat out and infield single to score Quintal. Schwartz scored on a ground out by Kaschmitter. Uhlenkott scored on an infield single by McElroy and Duclos scored on a single to left by Hinds. That gave Prairie an 8-0 lead before Lapwai even had a chance to hit.
Lapwai’s leadoff hitter reached on an error and advanced to third on a stolen base and an error but was stranded there as Behler struck out the next 3 hitters.
Prairie added a run in the second inning. Quintal was hit by a pitch again with 1 out. He stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on an infield hit by Schwartz.
Behler gave a leadoff single to right in the second inning then struck out the next 2 batters and got out of the inning with a comebacker to the mound.
Prairie added 3 runs in the third inning. McElroy hit a 1-out double to right and went to third on a wild pitch. Hinds doubled to right to score McElroy. Behler tried to sacrifice Hinds to third but wound up safe at second on a throwing error with Hinds scoring. Behler then went to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch.
In the bottom of the third Behler had his first 1-2-3 inning on a strikeout, pop up to Hinds at short and flyout to McElroy in center.
Prairie made it 13-0 with another run in the fourth. Owen McIntire pinch hit and drew a leadoff walk. He went to second on a passed ball. He advanced to third on a groundout by Logan Weber and scored on a groundout to second by Kaschmitter.
In the bottom of the fourth, Behler gave up a 1-out hit by pitch and a single before getting out of the inning.
In the top of the fifth Behler doubled but no runs scored.
In the bottom of the fifth Behler struck out the side to finish out the game.
Behler gave up just 2 hits with 1 hit batsman, no walks and 12 strikeouts.
Prairie had 11 hits led by Hinds who had doubles and a single, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. McElroy had a double and a single and 2 runs scored. Behler had a double and 2 runs scored. Kaschmitter had a single, 2 RBI and a run scored. Schwartz had a single, 2 RBI and a run scored. Uhlenkott had a single, RBI and a run scored. Duclos had a single, RBI and run scored. Quintal was hit by a pitch twice and scored both times. McIntire walked and scored a run.
Prairie is now 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in White Pine League play.
