Pirates win 1 of 3 The Prairie baseball team won 1 of 3 varsity games this past week as they lost 1-16 at C.V. in 3 innings on Thursday, April 20, then lost 1-12 to Troy on Saturday, April 22 at Lewiston before salvaging the second game of the doubleheader 3-1. They also won a JV game Thursday, April 20 at C.V., 13-11. A doubleheader against Lewis County scheduled for Monday, April 24 was cancelled due to weather and will count as 2 forfeit wins for Prairie due to lack of numbers for Lewis County as the games will not be made up. At C.V. In the varsity game at
Kooskia against C.V., starting pitcher Colton McElroy was nowhere near
as sharp as he was a few days earlier at Genesee. He gave up a leadoff
single on the first pitch then walked the next 3 batters before getting
an out on an RBI grounder to third. After a strikeout, the next 7 C.V.
hitters all reached base on an error, single, 3 walks and another error
as the Rams scored 9 runs before McElroy got out of the inning with a
strikeout.Owen McIntire pitched the final two innings and didn’t fare a whole lot better as he gave up 5 runs in the second inning on 5 hits and a walk and 2 more in the third on an error and a 2-out, 2-run homer that ended the game on the 15-run mercy rule after 3 innings. Offensively the Pirates were held to just 3 hits and 1 run by C.V.’s Anthony Fabbi. Phil Schwartz had a 1-out single in the first inning. Carter Shears had a 1-out single in the second inning. In the third inning Kaden Duclos reached on a passed ball on a swinging third strike. Colton McElroy was walked on 4 pitches. After an out, Cody Kaschmitter singled to run with Duclos scoring Prairie’s only run. The JV nightcap was a wild game with C.V.’s bottom of the third being the only scoreless half inning. The teams combined for just 1 hit until the fourth inning but they still had 5 runs each. Prairie scored 3 runs in the first inning. Levi McElroy drew a 1-out walk. Logan Weber was hit by a pitch and Dylan Uhlenkott’s fly ball to center was dropped for an error. All three runs scored from third on a wild pitch. McIntire drew a 1-out walk but was forced at second by Duclos. Duclos stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch. Hinds ran into bad luck in the inning as the first two batters reached on passed balls despite striking out and the third batter reached on an error. C.V. scored 3 runs to close within 13-11.
