Cottonwood City Council meets
The Cottonwood City Council held their May meeting Monday, May 8. Of several action items on the agenda, only one wasn’t tabled until the next meeting. A representative of Atlas Sand and Gravel appeared before the Council with a request to make a sewer connection to the city system. They are putting in a plant across Lewiston Street from the Seubert Excavators, Inc. plant. They plan to have a large shop building plus a smaller office trailer. They would have a restroom in each which would be a toilet and sink. It would be charged out as a commercial hookup at the outside the city rates. City Attorney Joe Wright was directed to draw up an agreement and the request was approved pending the agreement being signed. Jordan Zwygart, CPA, was on the agenda and was to present the FY 2022 Audit and Financial Statement. He was unable to attend and city clerk Lynn Thompson said he had told her it would be either this month or next. Discussion on Roger Trombetta’s property at 1401 King Street was tabled as he still hasn’t received the surveyor’s report. The pasture lease was tabled as they have not yet heard back from the current lessee. The Wimer Field agreement with Cottonwood Youth Sports and Cottonwood School District was discussed with Wright pointing out some possible issues for the city. The parties were to get together Tuesday, May 9 for further discussion of the agreement. In the reports Police Chief Terry Cochran said the new vehicle for Officer Jason Rambo has arrived and should be equipped and ready by the end of the month. He also reported the container is set up at Fred’s Body Shop for the 2-liter bottles for the 4-H bottle project. Debby O’Neill reported the city pumped 2,572,600 gallons of water in April and sold 2,161,720 gallons for a loss of 16.12%. Some of which can be attributed to firefighting and to a couple of leaks that were found and repaired. Brett Miller reported there has been some sewer system work on Lewiston Street. They are also replacing some pipes in the agriforest. Kristie Holthaus reported there has a lot of crack sealing done on city streets. They were unable to get the grant they applied for that would pay for some school crossing signs. They will be chip sealing Lewiston Street this summer. Linda Nida reported the fire station has had gutter installed and the new HVAC system is currently being installed. The pea gravel that was under the old playground equipment in the city park is being removed and will be placed under the equipment that is being moved to the Wimer ballfields. Construction of the new pavilion was supposed to start this week but the rain has delayed it. Holthaus reported the airport runway has been crack sealed and the slurry seal work will start this month, weather permitting. Nida reported there were no fire calls this past month. Mayor Keith Holcomb reported the Association of Idaho Cities will be holding their annual conference June 21-23 in Boise.
