Sage Elven wins state discus title Sage Elven was state champion in the girls discus and the girls team finished in 2nd place at the State Track Meet Friday and Saturday, May 19-20 at Middleton High School. Elven won the discus with a personal best of 129’3” which is just 3½” shy of the school record set by Jenna Goeckner in 2001. Elven was also 15th in the shot put at 30’3”. Kristin Wemhoff brought home 4 state medals. She was 3rd in the 100 in 12.96, 4th in the 200 in 26.55 (after setting a PR of 26.15 in the prelims) and 4th in the 400 in 49.09. She was anchor leg for the 4x100 relay team with Alli Geis, Sierra Oliver and Julia Rehder that finished 2nd and also broke the school record with a time of 51.39. They broke the record of 51.42 set by Keely Schmidt, Mykaela McWilliams, Shayla VonBargen and Krystin Uhlenkott in 2001 at the State Track Meet. On the boys side Trenton Lorentz also brought home 4 state medals. He was 3rd in the 200 in a school record time of 22.89, breaking the record he had first broken at the Regional Meet in Kamiah a week earlier and then had reset during the prelims at State at 22.93. He was also 6th in the 100 in 11.60. He also brought home medals in the 4x400 with Bennie Elven, Ben Secrest and Noah Geis as they finished 3rd in the 3:35.55 and in the 4x100 where he teamed with Elven, Geis and Secrest to finish 6th in 45.51. Sydney Shears brought home 3 state medals. She was 4th in the 800 meter run in a school record time of 2:42.42. That broke the record held by Chaye Uptmor of 2:42.46 set in 2016. Shears was also 5th in the 1600 in a personal best time of 5:36.50. She was also part of the 4x400 relay team with Geis, Oliver and Avery Riener that placed 5th in 4:19.92. Shears was also 9th in the high jump at 4’6”. Noah Geis brought home 3 state medals as he finished 3rd in the 400 in 52.56 in addition to earning medals in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The girls 4x200 relay team of Geis, Avery Riener, Oliver and Julia Rehder earned a medal with a 5th place finish in 1:51.39. Riener earned a 5th place medal in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 33’¾” in addition to the medals earned in the 4x400 and 4x200. She was also 14th in the long jump at 14’1½”. Shane Hanson earned a 6th place medal in the discus with a mark of 139’0”. He was also 13th in the shot put at 41’5”. The girls medley relay team of Lexi Schumacher, Aubree Rehder, Julia Rehder and Geis just missed a medal as they placed 7th in 1:58.37. Hailey Hanson was 8th in the discus with a PR of 108’3”. Elizabeth Severns was 10th in the discus at 105’6”. Callie Remacle was 14th in the high jump at 4’4”. Julia Rehder was 16th in the long jump at 13’6½”. Oliver was unable to clear opening height in the pole vault. Lee Forsmann was 9th in the discus at 134’3”. Zane Uptmor was 13th in the discus at 109’9”. Bennie Elven was unable to get in a legal throw in the discus. As a team the girls scored 58 points, well behind state champion Raft River who had 113.83 but just 1 point ahead of 3rd place Oakley and 3 points ahead of 4th place Rockland. The boys team scored 27 points as they finished in an 11th place tie with Tri-Valley. The 31 total state medals earned (which includes 4 for each of the relays that medalled) has to be one of the highest ever for a Prairie track squad. Prairie earned a state medal in every running event final they were in on Saturday and the only running final they didn’t medal in they finish 7th, one spot away from a medal. Alli Geis has just handed off to Sierra Oliver and Sydney Shears has just taken the handoff from Avery Riener in the 4x400 where Prairie placed 5th. Bennie Elven hadns off to Ben Secrest and Trenton Lorentz hands off to Noah Geis in the 4x400 where the boys placed 3rd.
