SJB Class of 2023 receives awards, scholarshipsSJB Class
St. John Bosco Academy announced their top senior class awards at graduation Saturday.
Makayla Rose received the St. John Bosco Award while Luke Stubbers received the Patriot Award and Cody Wassmuth received the Excelsior Award.
Class members also received medallions for student activities and they also were awarded scholarships.
Luke Stubbers-Medallions for 4 years of basketball, 4 years of Drama, 2 years of Academic Bowl, 2 years of Student Government, 80 hours of Apostolic Service Certificate. He also received an Idaho Opportunity Scholarship worth $3500, the Vandal Summit New Academic Scholarship which is $4500 renewable for 4 years.
Cody Wassmuth-Received medallions for 4 years of basketball, 4 years of Drama, 4 years of Academic Bowl and 3 years of Student Government as well as a Certificate for 80 hours of Apostolic Service. He also received the Cottonwood Lions Club Citizenship Award which includes a $50 scholarship.
Torry Chmelik-Received medallions for 4 years of basketball, 4 years of Drama, 2 years of Academic Bowl and an 80 hours of Apostolic Service Certificate. He also was awarded a U of I Vandal Excellence Scholarship worth $3000 and the Idaho County Light and Power Scholarship worth $750.
Makayla Rose-Received medallions for 1 year of basketball, 4 years of Drama, 4 years of Academic Bowl, 2 years of Student Government, 4 years of volleyball and an 80 hours of Apostolic Service Certificate. She will be serving in the United States Air Force as an Aerospace Propulsion Specialist. For serving, she will receive full paid college tuition through the GI Bill along with $4500 a year for tuition assistance and acceptance into the Community College of the Air Force.
Clay Weckman-Received medallions for 4 years of basketball, 3 years of Drama, 2 years of Academic Bowl, 1 year of Student Government, 4 years of football and an 80 hours of Apostolic Service Certificate. He has been awarded an Idaho Opportunity State Scholarship worth $3500 (renewable) and a Vandal Merit New Academic Achievement Scholarship worth $1000.

Former principal James Hickel was the commencement speaker.
