Alumni Volleyball Tournament is held
The second annual Prairie Alumni Volleyball Tournament had 4 teams competing Wednesday, June 28.
There were 3 teams made up of alumni and the Prairie varsity team filled in as the fourth team.
The team that included 3 members of the back-to-back state volleyball champions of 2014-2015 wound up winning the tournament, dropping just 1 set along the way.
The team of Hailey Danly, Krystin Uhlenkott Schlader, Shayla VonBargen, Kyndahl Ulmer Bruner, Jamie Chicane Scheffler and Kim Riener Harman faced off against the Prairie varsity team in the first round and won 2 games to 0.
Alli Geis, Hailey Hanson, Sierra Oliver, Aubree Rehder, Kaylie Lockett, Lexi Schumacher, Tamden Pecarovich and Sydney Shears were the players available for the Prairie varsity.
In the other first round matchup the recent grads team of Kristin Wemhoff, Tara Schlader, Julia Rehder, Laney Forsmann, Ali Rehder, Hope Schwartz and Delanie Lockett won 2 games to 0 over the veteran team in the tournament. Julie Wren Schumacher, Vikki Duman Riener, Renee Arnzen Rehder, Erika Forsmann Shears, Francesca Johnson Forsmann and Shandrie Poxleiter Stigum made up that team.
The winners matched up with the champions team taking an early lead then falling behind and losing after a big serving run by Julia Rehder for the recent grads. The champions team came back to win big in the second game and won the third game to take the championship.
In the third place match with 3 sets of mother-daughter matchups, the Prairie varsity team defeated the veteran team 2 games to 0. They then played a third game also won by the younger squad.
The Prairie varsity finished off the night with a 1-game match against the recent grads with the alumni pulling out a close win.

On the far side of the net is the winning team at the Prairie Alumni Volleyball Tournament. The team includes 3 players from the 2014-15 back to back state champions. Serving is Jamie Chicane Scheffler. Julia Rehder had a big service run that turned around the first game in the championship match and led to the only set loss by the championship team.
