Frei elected VFW National Chaplain
Dave Frei was elected national chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. on July 27, 2023, at the 124th VFW National Convention in Phoenix, Arizona.
He is the first VFW nationally elected officer from Idaho.
Dave served in the United States Army from 1986 to 1993, earning his VFW eligibility serving in the Gulf War. In recognition of his service, he received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement medal with three oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal (two), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two bronze service stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal, among several others.
He joined the VFW in 1991 at Post 4902 in Cottonwood, Idaho, where he maintains his Life membership.
Dave has served in elected and appointed positions at the Post, District and Department levels. He served as the Department of Idaho chaplain in 2022-2023, and is currently serving as Department chaplain for the 2023 to 2024 term. On the national level, he has served as Aide-de-Camp.
Dave is employed by the United States Postal Service and has been a postal service drivers’ trainer for more than 20 years and served as the president of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
He is also a member of the American Legion.
Dave and his wife, Kathrine, reside in Cottonwood, Idaho.
