11 turn out for Lady Patriots volleyball
There are 11 girls turned out for volleyball at St. John Bosco Academy this year.

7 players return from last year’s team that lost just 1 senior to graduation. They are Maleah Cummings and Vivian Dahlsrud, seniors; and Rachel Sonnen, Raylie Warren, Julia Wassmuth, Noelle Chmelik and Sarah Waters, all juniors.
New to the team this year are sophomore Savannah Perrin and freshmen Audry Warren, Miah Mager and Catherine Seubert.
Returning as coaches are Jamie Johnson and Sarah Carothers.
Kendrick would appear to be the league favorite again this year but with all the experience returning, the Patriots could well be in contention.

Lady Patriots start 1-1
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots started their season by splitting a pair of matches.

On Thursday, August 24, they won their opener by defeating Nezperce 23-25, 25-15, 25-11, 25-13 at Cottonwood. On Monday, Aug. 28 they traveled to Moscow to play Logos in a non-league match  and lost 18-25, 25-22, 17-25, 13-25.
Vs. Nezperce
The Lady Patriots got off to a slow start in their opener against Nezperce as they fell behind 0-6 in the opening game.
A kill by Sarah Waters put the Patriots on the scoreboard and after 2 bad serves each, Waters went to the service line for 4 straight points to get the Patriots back in the game at 6-8.
The went back and forth until Noelle Chmelik took her second turn at the service line and served the Patriots into their first lead of the game. She took over at 12-13 and served 4 straight points on 2 aces and 2 kills by Waters for a 16-13 lead.
The Patriots then held the lead until a late rally by Nezperce. They led 23-21 after a kill by Raylie Warren but then a missed serve led to 4 straight points by Nezperce as they pulled out a 23-25 win.
In the second game the Patriots fell behind 0-3 but were able to take the lead much quicker as Raylie Warren served 3 straight points to put them on top 6-4.
Later Chemlik had a 5-point run with 2 aces and 2 kills by Waters plus a kill by Julia Wassmuth to build a 12-5 lead. After trading sideouts Catherine Seubert served the Patriots to a 20-6 lead with 4 aces plus 3 kills by Waters.
Nezperce rallied back with 6 straight points but got no closer than 6 at 21-15. At that point Raylie Warren scored a kill for a sideout and Wassmuth served out the game.
In game 3 the Patriots gave up just the opening point then Chmelik scored a sideout kill and Wassmuth serve them into a 6-1 lead. Wassmuth served 2 aces while Rachel Sonnen scored a pair of kills and Wassmuth added one herself.
Nezperce was able to get back within 3 at 8-5 and 11-8 before Waters put together a service one that opened up a big lead.
Waters took over at 14-9 and served Bosco to a 20-9 lead. She had 4 aces while Warren and Sonnen each added a kill.
Wassmuth added a couple of aces to get Bosco to 23-10. After a sideout each, Chmelik scored the game-winning kill to give Bosco a 2 games to 1 lead.
Game 4 was the first time Bosco scored the first point as Wassmuth served 2 aces for a 2-0 lead.
The game stayed relatively close until Sonnen put together a 6-point service run that made it 20-8. She had 2 aces while Warren had 3 kills and Chmelik added a kill as well.
The two teams play even the rest of the way as Bosco held on to win 25-13 and win the match 3 games to 1.
