4-H Clubs receive top community service projects at the Fair
by Kristin Frish The 2023 Idaho County Fair
results are once again in the books. Towards the end of the long list
of recognitions for jobs well done is "Top Community Service Projects".
Jill Bruegeman, Idaho County 4-H Program Director, explained this award. As part of their development efforts of our county's youth, all county 4-H clubs are required to perform some type of community service during the year. The club prepares a poster detailing their community efforts and this poster is then displayed at the fair. Bruegeman then appoints one of the many fair judges to study these displays and choose the best to be awarded the "Top Community Service Projects". This year, Bruegeman decided to award two prizes instead of just one as has been past practice. First place went to the Keuterville 4-H Livestock Club (who also won last year as well) for their volunteering monthly at the Cottonwood recycling site, scraping/repainting the two recycling site platforms, cleaning roadside ditches in the Keuterville area, and creating homemade cards with encouraging messages inside for delivery to residents of Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation in Grangeville, Sacred Heart Children's Hospital in Spokane, and the Idaho State Veterans' Home in Lewiston. Second place went to the Greencreek Active Workers 4-H Club for volunteering monthly at the Cottonwood recycling site as well as roadside ditch cleaning in the Greencreek and Winona Road Districts. The prizes for both places are the same: a Top Project ribbon and a special club pizza party. Bruegeman's program will pay for pizza for each club at the place and date of their choice.
