Prairie and St. John Bosco at Timberline Tournament PIRATES GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
SCHEDULE FOR 2023
The Prairie Lady Pirates and St. John Bosco Lady Patriots will both be competing at the Timberline Spartan Showdown Volleyball Tournament this Saturday, Sept. 23 at Timberline High School. St. John Bosco will be in Pool A with the Orofino JV, Lapwai and Highland while Prairie will be in Pool B with Timberline, C.V. and Salmon River. Action will start at 8 a.m. with the gym opening at 7:15 a.m. Tickets will be $6 for adults and $5 for children. Seating is limited due to two nets running in the gym. St. John Bosco will open against Orofino JV at 8 a.m. on Court 1 while Prairie will open against Salmon River in the second match on court 2. After the pool play round robin there will be crossover matches. A1 will play B2 and B1 will play A 2 on court 1. The winners will then play for the championship. A3 will play B4 and B3 will play A4 on court 2 with the winners playing for the consolation title. The champion, runner-up and consolation winner will receive plaques. Matches will be best 2 out of 3 games to 25 with the third game, if necessary, to 15. Lady Pirates edge C.V. in 5 games The Prairie Lady Pirates pulled out a 5-set match against the Clearwater Valley Rams by scores of 26-24, 20-25, 25-20, 25-27, 16-14 at Cottonwood Wednesday, Sept. 13. With 3 of the 5 sets being decided in extras it is apparent the two teams were well matched. Prairie took a 2-0 lead in the first game on a kill by Kylie Schumacher and an ace by Tamden Pecarovich. However C.V. came back to take a 4-5 lead. A kill each by Taylor Riener and Pecarovich put Prairie back on top 6-5 but C.V. took back the lead and held it until 2 aces by Alli Geis put Prairie back on top 10-9. C.V. took back the lead and held it until Kaylie Lockett served 4 points in a row. She had 2 aces and Geis and Lexi Schumacher each added a kill for an 18-15 lead. Prairie continued to lead until at 23-18 C.V. scored a sideout and then served 5 more points to get to game point at 23-24. Sierra Oliver scored a sideout kill to send Pecarovich to the service line with a 24-24 tie. A kill each by Kylie Schumacher and Oliver gave Prairie the game 1 win at 26-24. C.V. jumped out to a 0-3 lead in the second game and never trailed. Prairie managed to tie the game at 15 after a 4-point serving run by Sydney Shears. She had 2 aces while Lexi Schumacher had 2 kills and Kylie Schumacher tied it with a first touch kill at the net. C.V. called timeout and then scored a sideout but Prairie tied it on another kill by Lexi Schumacher. C.V. then took back the lead and never gave it up as they went on to win by 5 and even the match at 1 game each. Prairie again fell behind to open the third game 0-2. The answered with a kill by Oliver, an ace by Pecarovich and a block by Kylie Schumacher to take the lead but C.V. then scored 4 straight to retake the lead. Prairie took the lead again with Kaylie Lockett serving as she took over after a missed C.V. serve and had a 4-point run to give Prairie an 11-8 lead. She had an ace while Geis had 2 kills and Lexi Schumacher added another. C.V. came right back to take a 12-14 lead before Geis scored a sideout kill. Lexi Schumacher then served an ace to tie it and a push by Oliver put Prairie ahead. Another ace and a kill by Geis and Prairie led 17-14. Prairie led by as many as 6 at 22-16 after a 4-point service run by Geis. She served an ace to the back line while Oliver had 2 kills and Kylie Schumacher added another. C.V. rallied back to within 2 at 22-20 before bricking a serve into the net. Kylie Schumacher then put the game away by scoring on a block and then on a kill. In the fourth game Prairie took their first lead at 3-2 on a kill by Lexi Schumacher with Lockett serving. Lockett then served 2 aces for a 5-2 lead. Pecarovich served two aces that gave Prairie a 16-6 lead and after a sideout kill by Riener, Oliver served 3 aces and Kylie Schumacher added a kill for a 21-8 lead and it appeared Prairie would win the match in 4 games. C.V. scored 5 straight points to cut the deficit to 21-12. Prairie still led 23-14 after a bad serve by C.V. The Rams then came up with 9 straight service points by Brooklyn Barger, including 5 aces as C.V. rallied for a 23-24 lead. A kill by Geis tied it at 24 and a block by Geis gave Prairie a match point chance at 25-24. A missed serve tied the game at 25 and C.V. then scored the next 2 points to win the game and force a deciding fifth game. The fifth game went back and forth with neither team able to take more than a 2 point lead. The lead changed hands 3 times and the game was tied 9 times. With the game tied at 12-12 after a sideout kill by Kylie Schumacher, Oliver scored a kill and Kylie Schumacher won a joust at the net to get to match point at 14-12. Two kills by C.V. tied the game at 14-14 before the Rams bricked a serve into the net. With Oliver serving, Prairie won the match on a back row kill by Lockett. Kylie Schumacher wound up with 19 kills including 5 blocks. Oliver had 17 kills and 3 aces. Lexi Schumacher had 15 kills, 2 assists and 4 aces. Geis had 14 kills including a block, with 2 assists and 3 aces. Riener had 3 kills and 1 assist. Pecarovich had 2 kills, 55 assists and 4 aces. Lockett had 2 kills, 1 assist and 5 aces. Shears had 3 aces. Prairie is now 3-3 overall and in league play. The JV match was a lopsided win for the Pirates as they won 25-8 and 25-10. Alli Geis goes for a spike against C.V.
