To the Library and Beyond
Here comes October, already, and much to do. October
is a popular month: American Archives Month - Maybe it’s time to put
some things into the archives and let other things go forever;
Children’s Magazine Month – Do our children have all the magazines they
need? Church Library Month – This might be
the time to donate those religious books we’ve collected to the church;
Family History Month – Ah, one of our favorite subjects, because where
would we be without out families? Global
Diversity Awareness Month – This would be a good time to appreciate the
rich diversity in our world; Information Literacy Awareness Month – So
much information and so many levels of literacy, it’s just a question
of where to begin! Medical Librarian Month
– if you know a Medical Librarian, thank them for the job they do;
National Arts & Humanities Month – Most of us are probably grateful
for our culture of arts and humanities; National Book Month – Every
month is book month but in October we recognize the nation-wide impact
of books; National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month – This is
important because none of us wants to be a bully; National Cookbook
Month – and if you EVER need a cookbook, there is a wide assortment in
the Library! National Reading Group Month –
Even if your reading group isn’t a club, this is the month for a
special celebration; and let’s not forget “TeenTober”! Hispanic Heritage Month continues until October 15; let’s say “Hola! Que tal? Como estas?” October 1–7 is Mystery Series week – better come into the Library and stock up on your favorite mystery series books! The same week is Banned Book Week giving us the opportunity to write a brilliant new mystery story that outshines all the rest. October 4 is Banned Websites Awareness Day. On the bright side, October 4-10 is World Space Week and time to remember our favorite space stories.
