To the Library and Beyond
October must be the happiest month of the year.  The week of October 15 to 21 is National Friends of Libraries Week and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people of this community who have done so much to support Prairie Community Library with admirable efforts, especially the great fundraising projects you carried out with total dedication.  The week of October 15 to 21 is also Teen Read Week, part of TeenTober, a nationwide celebration of teens and their libraries.  Alas, this year Prairie Community Library can help you most by offering opportunities for community service, because it looks like we will need capable hands and arms to carry books.  The Library Board is having a special meeting this Thursday to plan how we are going to deal with results of the recent “flood.”  Monday, October 16 is “Dictionary Day”; this is obviously a holiday to find a comfortable spot with your dictionary and learn some astonishing new things about Information Literacy during this Information Literacy Awareness Month.  Friday, October 20 is National Day on Writing; whether it is your writing or someone else’s, this is the day the nation has chosen to appreciate writing.  Go ahead and write yourself a letter.  Or, since this is Family History Month, write a letter to someone in your family.  If you write a letter to a living relative, you can be sure they will enjoy reading it.  On the other hand, if you write a letter to a deceased relative, you can enjoy it yourself for as long as you like.  Please keep your local library in your thoughts as we work to make it good as new, again.  Thank you.  Also, we have had the thought that if you or someone you know has a rich uncle, we would like to go steady and/or propose a new library building.  Be sure to let yourself laugh during this happy month.
