Lady Pirates win 1 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates split a pair of league matches then traveled for a non-league match at Orofino this past week. On Tuesday, Oct. 3, they traveled to C.V. and won 20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-21. On Thursday, Oct. 5, they hosted Genesee and lost in 5 sets 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-17. Finally on Monday, Oct. 9, they traveled to Orofino and lost in straight sets 24-26, 9-25, 16-25.
At C.V.
Prairie started the match at C.V. a little ragged as the Rams jumped out to leads of 0-3 and 1-6. Alli Geis goes up for a spike at C.V. Also shown are Tamden Pecarovich, Lexi Schumacher and Sierra Oliver.
Prairie was able to bet back within 1 at 10-11 after 2 kills by Lexi Schumacher and an ace by Kaylie Lockett. They were able to tie the game at 14-14 after 2 kills by Alli Geis and 2 aces by Tamden Pecarovich. C.V. then scored a sideout and pulled away to win by 5.
Prairie took their first lead of the match in the second game when Sierra Oliver scored a crosscourt kill for a 3-2 lead.
After an ace by Geis and a kill each by Taylor Riener and Kylie Schumacher, Prairie had a 10-4 lead. After a sideout by C.V., Kylie Schumacher scored a kill and Sydney Shears served 2 aces. A block by Kylie Schumacher made it 14-5.
Prairie led 18-8 when C.V. started a rally to get back within 6 at 18-12. A missed serve then two kills by Kylie Schumacher had it 21-12.
C.V. was able to get within 8 at 21-13 and 24-16 before Lexi Schumacher scored the game winning kill.
Pecarovich served Prairie to a 4-0 lead in the third game with an ace plus a kill each by Shears, Geis and Lexi Schumacher.
After a lot of sideouts and few serving points, an ace by Lockett and a kill by Lexi Schumacher made it 11-6. After 2 more sideouts, Pecarovich served 3 straight aces to make it 15-7.
C.V. then rallied back with 6 straight points to cut the lead to 15-13.
At 16-14, Geis scored a kill and then went back to serve. Oliver and Kylie Schumacher each scored a kill and 2 aces by Geis made it 21-14.
C.V. was able to get back within 4 at 22-18 before Kylie Schumacher scored on a block. A kill by Lexi Schumacher and an ace by Shears gave Prairie a 2 games to 1 lead.
In game 4 C.V. scored first but a tip by Geis tied it and an ace by Pecarovich and a kill by Lexi Schumacher game Prairie a 3-1 lead. After a sideout, Lexi Schumacher scored a sideout kill then a kill by Geis and two kills by Pecarovich gave Prairie a 7-3 lead.
C.V. then rallied back and took the lead at 10-12. Prairie took back the lead after 2 straight kills by Geis and an ace by Lockett that made it 16-13.
C.V. wasn’t done yet though as they again took the lead at 17-19 before missing a serve. A kill by Oliver tied it and an ace by Lexi Schumacher put Prairie ahead.
C.V. tied but then missed another serve. A kill by Oliver and an ace by Geis made it 23-20. C.V. scored a sideout on a kill but Kylie Schumacher answered with a kill to get to match point. A block by Kylie Schumacher scored the match winner.
Kylie Schumacher had 16 kills in the match including 5 blocks. Geis had 13 kills, 1 assist and 6 aces. Lexi Schumacher had 11 kills, 2 assists and 2 aces. Oliver had 8 kills, 19 assists and 4 aces. Shears had 5 kills, 2 assists and 3 aces. Riener had 3 kills and 2 assists. Pecarovich had 2 kills, 18 assists and 7 aces.Lockett had 1 assists and 3 aces. Ember Martin had 2 assists.
The JV team won all three of their games, 25-12, 25-15 and 15-12.
Prairie took a 6-3 lead in the opening game after an ace by Hailey Hanson and a kill by Ellie Nuxoll. C.V. then scored 7 of the next 8 points to take a 7-10 lead. They still led 8-11 when they missed a serve and Nuxoll went to the service line. She served 4 straight aces to give Prairie a 13-11 lead.
After a pair of sideouts, Avery Riener went to the service line and served out the game. She served 11 straight points with 5 aces while Aubree Rehder had 3 kills, Hanson had 2 kills and Nadia Cash added a kill as Prairie won 25-12.
Nuxoll scored a sideout kill to start the second game then Riener served 6 more points. She had 3 aces while Rehder had 2 kills and Nuxoll added a kill for a 7-0 lead.
C.V. scored a sideout but Nuxoll then hit a spike to the far corner and Rehder served 2 aces for a 10-1 lead. The rest of the game was played close to even as Prairie outscored C.V. just 15-14 but never led the Rams get closer than 5 points at 10-5.
In the third game C.V. scored first but then missed a serve. Riener then served Prairie to a 4-1 lead with an ace plus a kill and a block by Nuxoll.
C.V. rallied back for leads of 4-6 and 5-9.
C.V. led 8-12 when Hanson scored a sideout kill. This time it was Halee Rowland that served out the game. She had 4 aces while Hanson added 2 kills as Prairie scored the match’s final 7 points.
Vs. Genesee
The Lady Pirates lost in 4 sets when they traveled to Genesee earlier this season. This time they came close to upsetting the Bulldogs as they lost in 5 sets, winning the first and the fourth. They barely lost in the fifth set as they tied it at 15 before Genesee scored the final 2 points to win it.

At Orofino
It was Orofino’s Senior Night when Prairie played them on Monday.

Prairie led early on at 5-3 after a block by Kylie Schumacher but Orofino then scored 4 straight points and eventually built an 8 point lead at 10-18.
Prairie mounted a comeback by scoring 9 of 11 points to tie the game at 20-20. Geis, Lexi Schumacher and Pecarovich each had a kill in the that run while Kylie Schumacher had 2 kills and Oliver had 2 aces.
After a sideout, Lexi Schumacher scored another kill, Geis scored on a block and Lockett served an ace for a 23-21 lead. Orofino came back with 3 straight points to get to game point. A kill by Geis tied it at 24 but Orofino then scored 2 straight to win the game.
Prairie was never really in the second game as they fell behind 1-5, 2-7 and 3-12. Prairie scored just 2 points while serving in the game, an ace by Oliver and a kill by Lexi Schumacher with Kylie Schumacher serving, as Orofino dominated the action.
The third game wasn’t much better as Prairie fell behind 0-6 and 2-11. Geis had a run of 2 straight aces that turned a 10-20 deficit into a 14-20 deficit but that was about the only high point.
For the match Geis had 11 kills, including 2 blocks with 3 aces. Lexi Schumacher had 7 kills and 1 assist. Kylie Schumacher had 6 kills, including a block, plus 1 assist. Oliver had 4 kills, 12 assists and 3 aces. Pecarovich had 4 kills, 11 assists and 1 ace. Shears had 3 kills, 2 assists and 1 ace. Aubree Rehder had 1 kill and 1 assist. Riener had 1 block. Lockett had 1 ace. Martin and Nadia Cash each had 1 assist.
Prairie is now 5-9 overall and 5-8 in league play.
The JV team won their match 23-25, 25-18, 15-8.
They started the first game well as Riener served them to a 4-0 lead with 2 aces plus a kill each by Rehder and Hanson.
Orofino came back to take the lead at 7-9 and eventually led by as many as 8 at 11-19.
Riener’s second turn serving saw 3 more aces plus a kill by Hanson that cut that deficit to 3 at 16-19.
Prairie finally took the lead back with Hanson serving as she had 4 straight aces to give Prairie a 23-22 lead. Unfortunately Orofino scored a sideout and served 2 aces of their own to win the game.
In the second game Riener scored a sideout kill to open the game then served 6 straight points. She had 4 aces and Rehder had 2 kills as Prairie took a 7-0 lead.
An ace by Rehder made it 9-1.
Orofino got back within 4 at 13-9 before missing a serve. A kill by Schlader and 2 aces by Hanson made it 17-9.
Orofino got back within 4 at 20-16 before Riener served Prairie to a 23-16 edge as Hanson and Breanne Schwartz each scored a kill.
After 2 points by Orofino, the Maniacs badly missed on a serve and Hanson scored the game winning kill.
In the third game Riener served Prairie to a 3-0 lead with 2 kills by Nuxoll plus an ace. After 2 sideouts, Nadia Cash served an ace and Rowland and Nuxoll each added a kill for a 7-1 lead.
The lead held at about 6-8 points the rest of the game with Cash scoring the match winning kill.
The C team lost a 3-game match 25-21, 25-27, 9-15.

All tournament team named
It’s over 2 week later but they finally announced the All-Tournament Team for the Spartan Showdown Volleyball Tournament held at Timberline High School on Saturday, Sept. 23.
Lexi Schumacher of Prairie and Sarah Waters of St. John Bosco were two of the 7 players named to the team.
Also selected were Gracie Shuster of CV; Leiloni Ellenwood of Lapwai, Jaimie Binder of Timberline, Rylee Walters of Salmon River and Sydney Trueblood of Highland.
They were selected based on votes by the coaches.
