The Prairie football team came up big in their final home game of the season as they knocked off Clearwater Valley 46-8 Friday, Oct. 13. Prior to the game Prairie’s five seniors were honored with their families. They were Ethan VonBargen, Blake Bunce, Bennie Elven, Noah Behler and Trenton Lorentz. At halftime senior cheerleaders Miranda Klapprich and Meghan Fowler were honored as were cross country seniors Elizabeth Severns and Zane Uptmor. Prairie received the opening kickoff, which they fumbled but Elven recovered at the Prairie 30. The Pirates moved the ball down to the C.V. 24 before turning the ball over on downs with an incomplete pass on fourth and 2. C.V. took over and picked up a quick first down then were forced to punt on fourth and 6 from their 42. A bad snap to the punter led to a 22 yard loss with Prairie taking over at the C.V. 20. Dylan Uhlenkott picked up 13 yards up the middle to set up first and goal at the 7. Prairie then ran the same play again with Uhlenkott scoring a touchdown. Behler then ran in the 2-pointer to give the Pirates an 8-0 lead. Uhlenkott then executed an onside kick where he topped the ball and raced along with it until it crossed the 50 where a C.V. player touched it. On third and five Schumacher intercepted Schilling’s pass at the Prairie 45 and returned it to the C.V. 47. A penalty on the tackled against the Rams moved the ball to the 42. On C.V.’s next possession Jake Quintal sacked Schilling for 10 yards on second and 5 and Wemhoff sacked him for a 7 yard loss on third and 15. That left the Rams facing fourth and 22 from their own 26. Schilling looked to pass but wound up running for 12 yards with Prairie taking over at the C.V. 38. Behler connected on second and 6 to Elven for an 18 yard gain. Elven broke 3 tackles as he tried to get a senior night touchdown but was stopped at the 16. Schilling was 8 for 18 passing with an interception for 175 yards. Fabbi had 5 catches for 116 yards. With the win Prairie improves to 5-2 on the season and 4-2 in league play. They end their regular season this Friday, Oct. 20 at league leading and undefeated Logos in Moscow at 7 p.m. Prairie is locked into fourth place in the league standings as even if they beat Logos they wouldn’t have the tiebreaker against the Potlatch-Kamiah loser as they lost to both teams. A win though would probably help their MaxPreps rankings which determine who the at-large teams will be in the state playoffs. Only the top 3 teams in the White Pine are guaranteed spots in the playoffs.
