Lady Pirates win 2 of 3 PIRATES GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

The Prairie Lady Pirates finished off their regular season with a sweep of Lapwai on Tuesday, Oct. 10, then split their first two matches at District as they lost to Logos in 4 sets then swept C.V., both on Saturday, Oct. 14. Vs. Lapwai Seniors Alli Geis, Taylor
Riener and Ember Martin were honored prior to the match against Lapwai.
The Pirates then won the match by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-14.The opening game was back and forth as Lapwai opened with a 0-3 lead but Prairie came back to take a 6-4 lead on an ace each by Tamden Pecarovich and Lexi Schumacher and kills by Geis, Sydney Shears and Sierra Oliver. Lapwai tied it at 7 and again at 8. Prairie took a 13-8 lead with Shears serving. She had an ace while Lexi Schumacher had 2 kills and Kylie Schumacher had a block. Lapwai then came back with 6 straight points to retake the lead. They mostly held the lead until at 18-20, Oliver scored a sideout kill and then went back to serve. A kill each by Lexi Schumacher and Kylie Schumacher and an ace by Oliver gave Prairie a 22-20 lead. Lapwai scored a sideout but then bricked a serve. Lexi Schumacher scored a kill when she covered a block and then Kylie Schumacher scored the game-winner with a first touch spike. In the second game Prairie scored the first 2 points on a kill by Shears and an ace by Pecarovich but Lapwai then came back to take a 4-9 lead. Prairie thgen outscored them 8-2 to retake the lead. Lapwai’s only points came on missed Prairie serves. Kaylie Lockett started the run with a back row kill. Oliver and Kylie Schumacher each scored a kill to make it 7-9. After a missed serve, Kylie Schumacher scored a block and Oliver scored an ace. The two teams traded missed serves then Shears served 2 aces to give Prairie the lead. The score wound up tied again at 12, 14, 15 and 16. A dig by Lexi Schumacher gave Prairie a 17-16 lead then a kill by Kylie Schumacher and an ace by Geis made it 19-16. Lapwai scored on a block for a sideout but that was their final point of the game. Kylie Schumacher scored a kill then Oliver served an ace. Prairie then closed out the game with a kill each by Taylor Riener, Shears and Kylie Schumacher. In the third game Pecarovich served Prairie to a 3-0 lead with an ace and a kill each by Lexi Schumacher and Oliver. Prairie led 5-1 after a kill each by Lexi Schumacher and Geis. Lapwai then came back to take a 7-8 lead. Lapwai took their final lead of the match at 12-13 then bricked a serve. Pecarovich then served 8 straight points. Lexi Schumacher scored a kill then Pecarovich served an ace. Geis scored 3 more kills while Lexi Schumacher added one and Pecarovich served 2 more aces for a 21-13 lead. After a trade of sideouts, Lexi Schumacher served out the match. Geis scored a kill then Schumacher served an ace. Geis then scored the match-winning kill. Lexi Schumacher had 15 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 11 kills, including 2 blocks. Geis had 7 kills and 2 aces. Oliver had 7 kills, 8 assists and 3 aces. Shears had 4 kills including a block plus 3 assists and 4 aces. Pecarovich had 2 kills, 22 assists and 6 aces. Lockett had 2 kills, 3 assists and 2 aces. Riener had 1 kill. Prairie ends their regular season with a record of 6-9 overall, 6-8 in league play. That gave them the #5 seed into District. The JV team closed out their season with a 25-16, 25-18 win over Lapwai. Avery Riner serve Prairie to a 3-0 lead in the opening game as Prairie never trailed. Prairie built a 12-8 lead as they seemingly scored 2 for every 1 by Lapwai. Lapwai scored just 2 of those 8 when serving. Prairie then broke it open on Riener’s second serving turn as she served Prairie to an 18-8 lead. Aubree Rehder scored 3 kills and Hailey Hanson 2 in that 5-point service run. Rehder then served 2 aces to give Prairie a 21-9 lead. Lapwai finally put a rally together and pulled within 21-15 before Hanson scored a sideout kill then served an ace. Avery Kehler scored a kill to get to game point. Lapwai scored a sideout but Kehler answered with the game-winning kill. Riener again served Prairie to a 3-0 lead to start the second game. Ellie Nuxoll and Halee Rowland each scored a kill and Riener added an ace. After a sideout, Nuxoll scored on a top and Rowland served an ace. A winning joust at the net by Nuxoll made it 6-1. Lapwai pulled within 6-4 but a kill by Nadia Cash, 2 aces by Nuxoll and a block by Hanson made it 10-4. There were lots of sideouts the rest of the game although Riener did score 2 aces back to back. Rowland wound up scoring the match-winning kill. The C team won 25-15-25-16 to finish up their season on a high note. Vs. Logos at District In their District opener against #4 seed Logos, Prairie won the first game 25-21 then lost 3 straight, 13-25, 17-25, 23-25.In the opening game Prairie fell behind 0-3 and 2-5 before taking their first lead. Logos missed a serve and Lockett then served Prairie to the lead. Lexi Schumacher scored on a tip then Lockett served 2 aces to make it 6-5. Logos tied it then Lexi Schumacher scored a kill, Pecarovich scored an ace and Geis scored a kill to make it 9-6. After a Logos sideout, Geis, Lexi Schumacher and Oliver each scored a kill and Lexi served an ace to make it 13-7. Prairie led 16-9 after a kill by Riener when Logos mounted a rally. The Knights scored 10 straight points, 5 on aces, to take a 16-19 lead. Logos still led 18-21 when Geis scored a sideout kill and Pecarovich went to the service line. Pecarovich served out the game. She had 2 aces then Lexi Schumacher scored 3 straight kills. Pecarovich then ended the game with an ace. Unfortunately Prairie didn’t carry any of that game-ending momentum into the next game as Logos jumped out to leads of 0-3, 1-5 and 5-12. Prairie wasn’t able to get anything going in that game as they scored just 2 points while serving. In game 3 Logos jumped out to leads of 0-5 and 4-12. This time Prairie was able to get something going as Logos bricked a serve sending Lexi Schumacher to the line at 8-13. Lexi served 6 straight points to give Prairie the lead. She had 3 aces while Geis had 2 kills and Oliver added another kill. Prairie’s run ended on a double-hit violation. A kill by Geis put them back on top and a kill by Oliver made it 16-14. However Prairie scored just 1 more point in the game, a sideout block by Kylie Schumacher that made it 17-18. Logos then scored 6 straight to end it. In game 4 Prairie was able to keep it close although they never were able to take the lead. They fell behind 0-3 but a kill each by Kylie Schumacher and Shears and an ace by Oliver tied it at 3. Logos then took back the lead and led by as many as 6 at 12-18. Prairie was able to fight back but it may have come too late. They got within 2 at 21-23 after a kill each by Lexi Schumacher, Geis and Pecarovich. After a sideout, a kill by Geis and then an ace by her got within 1 at 23-24. Logos then scored the match-winning kill. Lexi Schumacher had 19 kills and 4 aces in the match. Geis had 10 kills, 3 assists and 1 ace. Kylie Schumacher had 11 kills, including 4 blocks. Oliver had 5 kills, 19 assists and 2 aces. Riener had 3 kills. Pecarovich had 2 kills, 18 assists and 4 aces. Lockett had 1 kill and 4 aces. Shears had 1 kill and 2 aces. Vs. C.V. at District Prairie stayed alive at District with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-17 win over the #8 seeded C.V. Rams. In the opening game Prairie boke open a 6-5 game when Oliver served 3 aces in a 5-point serving run while Riener added a block and Shears added a kill. That made it 12-5. C.V. came back within 3 at 14-11 before bricking a serve. Pecarovich then had 3 aces and Geis added a block to make it 19-11. C.V. managed to get back within 6 at 23-17. Oliver then scored a kill for a sideout to get to game point and then set up Riener for the game-winning kill. Prairie fell behind 0-4 in the second game, got within 1 at 3-4, then fell behind 3-8. They were behind 4-9 when Geis scored a sideout kill and then went back to serve. She had 4 aces and Lexi Schumacher had a kill and Kylie Schumacher a block as Prairie took their first lead at 11-9. The lead changed hands a couple more time before Prairie took the lead for good when Lexi Schumacher served 2 aces and Shears added a kill to make it 23-21. After a sideout, Geis scored a block to get to game-point. A missed serve gave C.V. a chance but then they missed their serve to give Prairie a 2 games to none lead. C.V. never led in the third game. Pecarovich opened the game with an ace. After a sideout, Lexi Schumacher and Geis each scored a kill and Lexi added an ace for a 4-1 lead. It was 7-4 when Shears scored a sideout kill and then served 2 aces and Kylie Schumacher added a kill as Prairie took a 12-4 lead. C.V. was able to get back within 3 at 17-14 and again at 20-17. Each time they missed the next serve. Shears took over the serve at 21-17 and served out the match. Lexi Schumacher scored 2 kills. Shears served an ace and Kylie Schumacher ended it with a kill. Geis had 13 kills, including 3 blocks, plus 7 aces in the match. Lexi Schumacher had 10 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces. Shears had 6 kills and 5 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 5 kills, including 2 blocks. Oliver had 1 kill, 13 assists and 4 aces. Riener had 2 kills, including a block and 1 ace. Pecarovich had 12 assists and 8 aces. Prairie was to play Tuesday, Oct. 17 against Genesee. If they won that match they would play again on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. against Logos. The winner of that match plays Thursday at 6 p.m. for second place against the Troy-Kamiah loser.
