Lady Patriots win 4 of 5 The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots closed out their regular season with a sweep of Timberline on Senior Night Tuesday, Oct. 10. They then opened District play on Saturday, Oct. 14 with 3 matches. They swept Highland, lost to Deary in 4 games and swept Nezperce. On Monday, Oct. 16, they played Timberline and won in 5 games. They were to play Deary on Tuesday, Oct. 16 for a berth at State. If they won that match they would play Kendrick in the District Championship match on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Both teams in that match advance to State. Senior Night celebration. They then swept Timberline to close their
regular season with a record of 8-7, 6-4 in league play. They finished
third in the league standings and were the #3 seed into District.We have no information on the game scores or how the JV team fared. vs. Highland at District The Patriots opened District play against #6 seeded Highland and won 25-15, 25-19, 25-17.They started well as Highland bricked the game-opening serve and Rachel Sonnen scored 2 kills for a 3-0 lead. Highland got within 1 at 4-3 then missed a serve. Sarah Waters served 4 aces and Julia Wassmuth added a kill for a 10-3 lead. Wassmuth served 2 aces to make it a 13-4 lead. Highland got within 15-9 before Noelle Chmelik serve 3 aces to make it 19-9. Highland was able to pull within 5 at 20-15 before Raylie Warren scored a sideout kill and sent Waters to the service line. Waters served an ace and then it was a kill by Warren, a kill by Dahlsrud and another kill be Warren and the game was over. Highland took their first lead of the match when they scored the first point of the second game. Bosco took the lead but Highland tied it at 3-3. A kill by Wassmuth sent Waters to the service line where she made it 9 straight service points over two games as she served Bosco to a 9-3 lead. Warren had 3 kills in the run while Waters had a back row kill and an ace. The lead held at 5-6 point until Warren’s serving turn. She took over at 12-6 and had 2 aces while Chmelik and Cummings each added a kill for a 16-6 lead. Highland rallied back within 3 at 19-16. A sideout kill by Warren and an ace by Waters made it 21-16. Highland again got within 3 at 22-19 but a kill by Warren and then 2 aces by Warren gave Bosco the second game. Highland led more than just once in the third game as they lead at 0-1, 5-6 and had their biggest lead of the match at 12-14. A bricked served then sent Warren to the service line. A kill each by Waters and Sonnen, an ace by Warren and a kill by Dahlsrud made it 17-14. Highland got within 2 at 17-15 and 18-16 then Chmelik scored a kill on a 2-handed push to the back corner. She then went to the service line and serve an ace. Sonnen and Wassmuth each scored 2 kills to get to match point. Highland scored a sideout but Wassmuth then scored the match-winning point. Warren had 13 kills, 1 assist and 5 aces in the match. Waters had 8 kills, 1 assist and 7 aces. Wassmuth had 7 kills, 18 assists and 5 aces. Chmelik had 5 kills 18 assists and 5 aces. Sonnen had 5 kills. Dahlsrud had 4 kills and 1 assist. Savannah Perrin and Cummings each had 1 kill and 1 assist. Vs. Deary at District Bosco went up against #2 seeded Deary in the second round at District and lost in 4 games, 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 21-25.The first game was close but Bosco was only able to lead a couple of times. They took their first lead at 7-6 on a net violation by Deary. After Deary tied it at 7, Waters scored a sideout kill and then served an ace. Warren added a kill for a 10-7 lead. Bosco held the lead until Deary put 4points together to retake the lead at 11-13. Bosco tied it at 13 and again at 16 but couldn’t get back into the lead. They fell behind by 4 at 16-20 and managed to get back within 1 at 19-20 on a kill by Warrant and again at 21-22 on an ace by Waters. However Deary scored the final 3 points to win the game. Two kills by Catherine Seubert opened the second game but Deary responded with 3 straight to take the lead. Two aces by Sonnen gave Bosco a brief lead at 9-8. Bosco again took the lead on one of Chmelik’s 2-handed push kills and Waters followed with a kill. Bosco was able to hold on to the lead until Deary put 4 points together to take a 19-20 lead. They then missed a served and Bosco answered with a kill each by Waters and Warren and an ace by Sonnen for a 23-20 lead. Deary came back to tie it at 23. A sideout kill by Warren and an ace by Waters tied the match at 1 game each. Another push kill by Chmelik started the third game but that turned out to be Bosco’s only lead. Deary came back and pushed the lad to 6-13 and 9-16. They led 12-20 when Bosco managed 4 straight to cut the deficit in half. However they never got closer that that as Deary went on to win by 6. Bosco took an early 5-4 lead on a kill by Waters in the fourth game but then fell behind 7-9. A kill by waters and 2 aces by Sonnen made it 10-9. Bosco led 17-12 after consecutive net violations by Deary but the Mustangs then rallied back with 5 straight to tie it. A tip by Wassmuth gave the Patriots an 18-17 lead but Deary then scored 5 straight to take the lead for good. They held on to win by 4 and send Bosco to the elimination portion of the bracket. Waters had 21 kills, 4 assists and 4 aces in the match. Warren had 19 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Seubert had 8 kills, including a block and 1 ace. Chmelik had 6 kills and 27 assists. Sonnen had 5 kills, 1 assist and 5 aces. Wassmuth had 4 kills, 24 assists and 1 ace. Dahlsrud had 1 kill. Vs. Nezperce at District Bosco was now in the
position of having to win 3 straight matches to earn a trip to state.
They started it off with a 25-16, 26-24, 25-18 sweep of Nezperce.Early on the first game went back and forth with Bosco taking an 11-7 lead after a 4-point serving run by Wassmuth only to see Nezperce answer with 6 straight for an 11-13 lead. They then bricked a serve and Warren served 2 aces to put Bosco ahead. Wassmuth and Waters each added a kill and 2 more aces by Warren made it 18-13. After each side then missed a serve, Savanah Perrin served Bosco to the brink. Seubert scored a kill then Waters scored 2 kills. 2 aces by Perrin made it 24-14. Nezperce called a timeout and then fought off 2 game points before Waters scored the game-winning kill. In the second game Waters served Bosco to a 6-3 lead with an ace and a kill each by Wassmuth and Seubert. Nezperce then came back and took the lead at 9-10. After a kill by Chmelik tied it, Nezperce reclaimed the lead and held it until a kill by Warren and an ace by Wassmuth gave Bosco an 18-17 lead. The game was then tied at 18, 20, 21 and 22. Nezperce took a 22-23 lead but Wassmuth scored a kill to tie it. Chmelik served an ace to make it 24-23. However on the next point Bosco was called for a net violation to tie it at 24. A tip by Waters gave Bosco another game point chance and Waters then scored the game winner. Bosco jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third game on a kill by Waters and 2 aces by Chmelik. Nezperce got back within 4-2 but never took the lead, much less tied it. At 8-4, Warren scored a sideout tip and Wassmuth serve 3 straight points. Dahlsrud scored a block, Warren a kill and Wassmuth an ace for a 12-4 lead. At 14-9, Wassmuth scored back to back kills. A kill by Sonnen and an ace by Chmelik made it 18-9. Nezperce was able to get back within 5 at 20-15 but a kill by Wassmuth who then served an ace made it 22-15. A kill each by Dahlsrud and Cummings put the Patriots at match point at 24-15. Nezperce fought off match point 3 times before Dahlsrud scored the match winning kill. Waters had 15 kills and 2 aces in the match. Wassmuth had 10 kills, 14 assists and 5 aces. Warren had 7 kills, 3 assists and 7 aces. Chmelik had 5 kills, 22 assists and 4 aces. Dahlsrud had 4 kills including a block. Seubert had 2 kills. Sonnen had 1 kill and 1 ace. Cummings had 1 kill. Perrin had 2 aces. Vs. Timberline at District In a loser out match on Monday the Patriots were able to defeat Timberline 24-26, 25-17, 21-25, 25-15, 15-10.The first game saw them go back and forth with neither team gaining much of an advantage. Bosco’s biggest lead were 12-8 while Timberline’s biggest lead was also 4 points at 15-19 and 18-22. A couple of kills by Warren, a kill each by Sonnen and Waters and an ace by Seubert enabled Bosco to tie the Spartans at 23. Timberline then scored to get to game point but Waters scored a kill on a free ball to re-tie it at 24 before Timberline scored the final 2 points. In the second game Bosco fell behind 0-4 at the start but came back to take a 5-4 lead with Chmelik serving. She had an ace while Waters had 3 kills. It was tied at 8-8 when Waters scored a sideout and Wassmuth served Bosco to a 13-8 lead. Bosco was able to pretty much hold that lead for the rest of the game to tie the match at a game each. In the third game Bosco led much of the way only to see Timberline grab the lead at 18-20 and extend to 18-23 on their way to a 4-point win. In the fourth game Bosco took a 10-6 lead with a 3-point service run by Wassmuth. She had an ace and Seubert and Warren each had a kill. Timberline got back within 1 a couple of times but a 4-point service run by Sonnen opened things up. She took over after a sideout kill by Wassmuth made it 17-14 and served the Patriots to a 21-14 lead. Waters and Warren each had 2 kills in that run. After a Timberline sideout, Warren scored a kill to send Waters to the service line. A kill by Miah Mager, an ace by Waters and a kill by Warren forced the match to a decisive fifth set. Chmelik serve Bosco to a quick 4-0 lead with an ace and 3 kills by Waters. Another kill by Waters and a kill by Warren made it 6-1. Timberline was able to get within 2 points at 11-9 but two kills by Waters made it 13-9. After a Timberline sideout, Waters scored a sideout and Sonnen then served up an ace for the match winner. Waters had 31 kills and 4 aces in the match. Warren had 19 kills, 4 assists and 2 aces. Chmelik had 12 kills, 41 assists and 6 aces. Wassmuth had 7 kills, 27 assists and 5 aces. Seubert ha 4 kills and 3 aces. Sonnen had 2 kills and 2 aces. Dahlsrud had 2 kills and Mager had 1 kill. Bosco finished the regular season at 7-7 overall and 6-4 in league.
