Lady Patriots finish third at District The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots had their season ended by Deary in a 25-22, 19-25, 12-25, 13-25 loss at District in Lewiston Tuesday, Oct. 17. They wound up finishing third in the tournament. A win would have sent them to State for the first time ever in volleyball. The Patriots started strong as they took a 5-3 lead after a kill by Raylie Warren and an ace by Sarah Watters. They led by as many as 3 at 9-6 after a kill by Noelle Chmelik and a 11-8 after an ace by Chmelik. Deary then scored 3 straight to tie it. Deary took their first lead at 14-15. Two straight kills by Warren put the Patriots back on top. Julia Wassmuth followed with 2 aces and Warren added another kill for a 19-15 lead. Deary closed withing 1 at 20-19 before Chmelik scored on consecutive 2-handed pushes toward the back corner for kills. After a sideout, Waters scored a kill and Chmelik served an ace to get to game point. After 2 straight points by Deary, Wassmuth ended the game with a kill. In the second game Deary took an early lead but a dig by Miah Mager, 2 aces by Wassmuth and a kill by Warren gave Bosco a 6-4 lead. Deary answered with 3 straight to retake the lead at 7-8 and again at 8-9. A botched Deary serve was followed by a kill each by Wassmuth and Waters for an 11-9 lead. Deary came back to take a 14-15 lead but a kill be Warren, an ace by Wassmuth and a block by Warren made it 17-15 for Bosco. That was their last lead though as Deary answered with 8 straight points to take a 17-23 lead. A kill each by Chmelik and Rachel Sonnen made it 19-23 but Deary then scored 2 straight to even the match at a game apiece. Deary pretty much dominated the final two games. In game 3 Bosco held a 2-1 lead after a kill by Waters and an ace by Chmelik but then gave up 6 straight points. With Sonnen serving they came back to tie it at 7-7 on 3 kills by Waters and 2 aces. Deary then scored 11 straight points to take control of the game. Bosco only broke that run on a missed Deary serve. They then gave the serve right back on a missed serve and Deary scored another 4 straight for an 8-23 lead. Deary then missed a serve but came back with a sideout to get to game point. Two kills by Chmelik and an ace by Warren made it 12-24 before Deary scored the game-winner. The Mustangs then scored the first 5 points of the fourth game and built leads of 3-11 and 4-17 on their way to another lopsided win that ended the Patriots’ season. Warren had 15 kills, including a block, 3 assists and an ace. Waters had 12 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. Chmelik had 10 kills, 20 assists and 3 aces. Wassmuth had 6 kills, 16 assists and 5 aces. Sonnen had 2 kills, 2 assists and 4 aces. Mager had 2 kills. Catherine Seubert had 1 kill. St. John Bosco finished their season with a record of 10-9. Julia Wassmuth passes the ball against Deary.
