19 turn out for Lady Pirates basketball

The Prairie girls basketball team will be very young this year with just 1 senior and 4 juniors among the 19 players turned out
Coach Lori Mader, in her 14th year at the helm, still thinks they can contend for a state berth although she feels Lapwai and Kamiah would have to be the favorites with Troy a contender as well.
Alli Geis, who saw a lot of playing time off the bench last year, is the only senior on the team.
Returning starter Lexi Schumacher leads the juniors with Aubree Rehder and Ellie Nuxoll having started for the JV team last season. Kadence Kalmbach is the fourth junior.
Five sophomores include returning varsity starters Kylie Schumacher and Hailey Hanson. Sage Elven was a swing player last year and was the leading scorer on the JV team. Sydney Shears was called up to varsity for tournaments and Avery Riener is the fifth sophomore.
That leaves almost half the squad as freshmen. They are Maggie Nuxoll, Kenzie Mizer, Nadia Cash, Erica Schlader, Kennedy Riener, Lillian Rehder, Ella McLeod, Halee Rowland and Kylee Riggers.
Daphne Hanson returns as JV coach.
The team will  see their first action next Tuesday, Nov. 14 at home in a non-league matchup against Orofino.
