Kylie Schumacher totaled 50 points to lead Prairie to a pair of home wins this past week for the Prairie Lady Pirates. She scored 26 in a come from behind 66-59 win over Genesee on Tuesday, Nov. 21 and 24 in a 55-40 win over Deary on Monday, Nov. 27.
In their league opener, the Lady Pirates didn’t take their first lead of the game until the fourth quarter.
Genesee jumped out to a 0-6 lead to open the game as Prairie missed several lay-ups.  Sage Elven put Prairie on the scoreboard with a lay-up at the 6:33 mark. After a Genesee free throw, Kylie Schumacher scored on a putback to make it 4-7.
Genesee scored 4 straight points to take a 4-12 lead but Prairie answered with a basket by Elven and another putback by Kylie Schumacher to get back within 4. After a Genesee basket, Hailey Hanson closed out the first quarter scoring with a 3-pointer to make it 11-14.
Genesee opened the second quarter with a  4-10 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 15-24. Kylie Schumacher scored a basket and two free throws for Prairie’s 4 points.
Prairie then answered with an 8-2 run with Kylie and Lexi Schumacher each scoring 4 points as Prairie got back within 3 at 23-26.
Genesee then outscored Prairie 3-9 to equal their biggest lead at 26-35 with Kylie Schumacher’s 3-point play being Prairie’s only points. Prairie got back within 6 by halftime on a free throw by Kylie Schumacher and a basket by Elven that made it 29-35.
The Pirates were unable to gain any ground in the third quarter and both Kylie Schumacher and Hanson picked up their fourth fouls during the quarter sending two starters to the bench.
Genesee opened the quarter with a basket then Kylie Schumacher scored a pair of baskets to cut the deficit to 4 points before picking up her fourth foul.
Scoring went back and forth until a lay-up by Sydney Shears and a 3 by Lexi Schumacher cut the deficit to 1 at 44-45 with 1:55 left in the quarter. Genesee responded with 2 baskets before Lexi Schumacher made a free throw. A 3-pointer by Genesee pushed the lead up to 7. Shears scored in the final seconds of the quarter to make it 47-52 after 3 quarters.
In the fourth quarter Kylie Schumacher came back in and Prairie ran their offense through her for 3 straight baskets to take their first lead of the game with 6:33 to play at 53-52. Genesee took back the lead but Shears answered with a 17 foot shot to put Prairie back on top 55-54.
Kylie Schumacher was then whistled  for her fifth foul while battling for position in the post.
Genesee scored to retake the lead but Hanson hit her 2^nd 3 of the game to put Prairie back on top. Genesee tied it but Hanson then made her second straight 3 points to give Prairie the lead for good with 3:05 to play.
After a Genesee free throw, Hanson made it three 3-pointers in a row to put Prairie up 64-59 with 55 seconds left.
Genesee, who had sunk six 3-pointers over the first 3 quarters, went 0 for 8 in the fourth quarter from long distance.
Lexi Schumacher put a capper on the scoring with a pair of free throw with 8 seconds left that gave Prairie their biggest lead of the game, which was also the final score, at 66-59.
Kylie Schumacher wound up with 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Lexi Schumacher added 14 points while Hanson scored 12, all on 3-pointers. Hanson was 4 for 5 from 3-point range. Shears scored 8 and Elven scored 6.
Alli Geis didn’t score but shared the rebounding lead with 14 boards as Prairie held a 55-43 advantage on the boards.
Elven led the team in steals with 3 while Lexi Schumacher had 5 assists. Geis and Elven each added 3 assists.
Prairie was 28 for 66 from the field, 42% and 7 for 17 at the line, 41%. Prairie was 5 for 19 in the first quarter from the field, 26%, but 23 for 47, 49%, the rest of the game. Genesee was 23 for 73 from the field, 32%, and 7 for 19 at the line, 37%. In contrast to Prairie, Genesee was 20 for 54, 37%, in the first 3 quarters from the field but 3 for 19, 16%, in the fourth.
In a foul-filled JV game, Genesee edged Prairie 41-42 for the first loss of the season by the JV’s.
Prairie took an 8-4 lead to open the game with Aubree Rehder scoring 4 of those points and Erica Schlader and Nadia Cash 2 each.
Genesee came back with a 2-11 run to end the first quarter and take a 10-15 lead.
Prairie opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to retake the lead with Halee Rowland scoring a basket then Rehder scoring a 2 on a steal and then a 3 for the go-ahead basket. Genesee answered with a 3 to retake the lead but a basket each by Rehder and Cash put Prairie up 21-18.
Genesee tied it with a pair of baskets but Kennedy Riener put Prairie back on top with a 3. Genesee however scored the final 3 points of the half to knot the score at 24 at the break.
A free throw by Schlader and a lay-up on an inbounds play by Rowland gave Prairie a lead to start the second half. However by that time two starters had picked up their fourth fouls.
Genesee answered with 6 straight points to retake the lead. Rehder then hit a pair of baskets to close the quarter and give Prairie a 31-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Kennedy Riener and Cash each scored a basket to open the fourth and give Prairie a 35-30 lead but Genesee answered with 6 straight points.  During that stretch Prairie two players to fouls and before the game ended, 2 more players fouled out.
Avery Riener broke Genesee’s run with a basket that put Prairie back on top at 37-36 but Genesee then scored another 5 straight points.
Aubree Rehder made a free throw and Kadence Kalmbach made a lay-up to cut the deficit to 1. Genesee added a free throw to make it a 2-point lead. Kalmbach was fouled and made the second of 2 free throws to pull the Pirates within 1 with 28 seconds left but that turned out to be the final point of the game. Prairie had a couple of chances at the end but couldn’t get the shots to fall.
Aubree Rehder wound up with 16 points to lead the scoring. Cash scored 6. Schlader and Kennedy Riener each scored 5. Rowland scored 4. Kalmbach scored 3 and Avery Riener scored 2.
Genesee had a 46-50 edge on the boards. Cash led the Pirates with 11 rebounds.
Aubree Rehder had 6 steals while Avery Riener had 4. Rowland and Schlader each had 3 assists.
The JV’s were 17 for 63 from the field, 27%, and 5 for 18 at the line, 28%. Genesee was 16 for 56 from the field, 29%, and 9 for 20 at the line, 45%.

In the win over Deary, an 11-0 run to end the first half broke open a close game.
Deary scored first in the game then Geis scored a lay-up and Hanson drained a 3-pointer for a 5-2 lead. Deary answered with 7 straight to take a 5-9 lead before Hanson made another 3 to pull Prairie within 1 at 8-9 with 3:06 left in the first quarter. Neither team scored again in the period.
Deary opened the second quarter with a basket then Kylie Schumacher got rolling. She rebounded her own miss for 2 and then Deary scored again. Kylie then scored 6 straight points to give Prairie a 16-13 lead. 4 of those points were on putbacks and on the other she scored a lay-up off a feed from hanson.
Deary tied it with a 3 but Elven put Prairie back on top with a 3.
Deary answered back with 7 straight points to lead 19-23 with 2:58 left in the half.
Kylie Schumacher then hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 1 and kick off that 11-0 half ending run. Lexi Schumacher scored a putback. Kylie Schumacher hit a turn-around shot. Lexi Schumacher stole the ball and scored and then Kylie scored a putback as the half ended to give Prairie a 30-23 lead.
Kylie made a free throw to start the second half then Deary scored 4 straight to pull within 4 at 31-27. Kylie made 2 lay-ups, Elven scored twice on putbacks and Shears scored on a putback for a 10-0 run that gave Prairie a 41-27 lead.
Prairie led 45-30 at the end of the third quarter.
Lexi Schumacher opened the fourth quarter with a 3, her first of the game. Deary answered with 4 straight points before Lexi scored a lay-up on an inbounds play. After another Deary basket, Lexi hit a 3-pointer to make it 53-36, Prairie’s biggest lead of the game.
Deary scored 4 straight to get back within 13 but their were only 45 seconds left. Kylie Schumacher then end the scoring on a feed from Shears to make the final margin of 15 points.
Kylie Schumacher had 24 points and 24 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Lexi Schumacher added 12 points. Elven scored 7, Hanson 6, Shears 4 and Geis 2.
Prairie dominated the boards 55-31. Elven added 10 rebounds to the total.
Elven had 4 steals and Hanson had 7 assists.
Prairie was 24 for 71 from the field, 34%, and 1 for 4 at the line, 25%. Deary was 15 for 49 from the field, 31%, and 7 for 14 at the line, 50%.
Deary was led in scoring by Kaylee Wood with 21 points.
Prairie is now 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
Prairie also won the 2-quarter JV game 22-15.
Deary had only 8 players on their entire roster and the same 5 players played the full two quarters and all but 1 got substantial time in the varsity game as well with 2 of them starting.
Aubree Rehder hit a 3 to give Prairie an early lead. After a Deary basket, Schlader scored a bank shot and Cash added a free throw for a 6-2 lead.
Deary scored then Lillian Rehder answered with a basket. After a Deary free throw Rowland scored twice. The first time on a putback and the second time on an inbounds feed from Aubree Rehder. That made it 12-5 at the end of the first quarter.
Deary scored to open the second quarter then Prairie scored 4 straight. Cash scored a putback and Schlader made 2 free throws.
A 6-0 run by Deary cut the lead to just 3 points at 16-13 with 2:50 left to play. Aubree Rehder putback her own miss to break Deary’s run then Cash and Rowland each added a basket to put Prairie up by 9 with 1:00 left, 22-13. Deary scored the final basket to cut the final margin to 7.
Rowland led the JVs in scoring with 6 points. Aubree Rehder and Cash each scored 5. Schlader scored 4 and Lillian Rehder scored 2.
Prairie had a 24-17 advantage on the boards with Cash grabbing 8 rebounds and Rowland 6.
Aubree Rehder had 3 steals and 2 assists while Rowland also had 2 assists.
The JVs were 9 for 37 from the field, 24%, and 3 for 4 at the line, 75%. Deary was 7 for 21 from the field, 33%, and 1 for 4 at the line, 25%.
