Pirates win at Grangeville
Prairie got off to a hot start as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead. Lee Forsmann scored 6 of those 10 points with Trenton Lorentz and Riley Shears adding 2 each.
Grangeville scored at the 3:01 mark and then Prairie scored the next 9 straight points for a 19-2 lead. Phil Schwartz scored 5 of those 9 while Forsmann and Briggs Rambo added 2 each.
After another Grangeville basket, Schwartz made 2 free throws for a 21-4 lead. Grangeville scored to close out the first quarter with Prairie leading 21-6.
Grangeville scored the first 2 points of the second quarter then Prairie went on a 12-1 run to take a 33-9 lead. Shears scored 7 of those 12 points with 2 baskets plus a 3-pointer. Rambo made a 3 and Forsmann added a lay-up.
Grangeville the started to finally get their offense going as they outscored Prairie 6-14 the rest of the half. Nate Forsmann scored 4 of Prairie’s 6 points while Rambo made a couple of free throws. Prairie still led by 16 at the half, 39-23.
Prairie started the second half with a 6-0 run as Matt Wemhoff, Lorentz and Shears each scored a basket. Grangeville answered with a 0-6 run of their own with 4 of those points coming at the free throw line.
Prairie then closed out the third quarter with a 9-2 run. Lee Forsmann scored 6 straight Prairie points on 2 baskets and 2 free throws and Rambo hit a 3 to close out the quarter with Prairie up by 23 at 54-31.
The scoring pace slowed in the fourth quarter as Prairie worked the shot clock and kept Grangeville from having very many possessions. When Grangeville had the ball they struggled to score as they hit just 2 of 11 fourth quarter shots.
Grangeville was able to outscore the Pirates in the fourth quarter but only by 6-7. Rambo made 2 baskets and Schwartz scored a lay-up after a steal for Prairie’s fourth quarter points.
Lee Forsmann led the Pirates in both scoring and rebounding with a 16 point, 12 rebound double-double. Rambo scored 14 with Shears scoring 11. Schwartz scored 9 while Lorentz and NateForsmann scored 4 each and Wemhoff scored 2.
Prairie had a 42-36 edge on the boards. Lorentz added 8 rebounds for the Pirates.
Lorentz had 4 steals while Shears had 3. Wemhoff had 7 assists.
Prairie was 23 for 59 from the field, 39%, and 10 for 18 at the free throw line, 56%. Grangeville was 11 for 46 from the field, 24%, and 15 for 26 at the line, 58%.
Grangeville was coached by former Prairie coach Shawn Wolter.
Prairie won the JV game which was played on Wednesday, Nov., 29 at Cottonwood, by a score of 53-20.

During halftime of the boys game Ethan VonBargen competed for Prairie in a blindfolded bowling competition put on by Advanced Welding. Blake Bunce helps tell Ethan where to roll the ball.

Elizabeth Severns competed in blindfolded bowling at halftime of the girls game.

Also during halftime of the boys game Lexi Schumacher competed in a 3-point shooting contest against Grangeville's Caryss Barger and won 18-16. She is shown with the Priarie student body cheering her on.
