To the Library and Beyond
Suddenly we find ourselves preparing for the second full week of December.  Have you chosen a foreign language to learn this month?  Or maybe you have already begun learning a few phrases in another language?
Have you found a new book to read this month?  Don’t worry about filling your house with books.  If you run out of space just put the books you no longer need into a box and bring them to the Library when we reopen.
Have you written to all of your friends this month?  We hope you have written at least one friend!  Surely some of the younger school children will be writing a very special letter to their friend Santa, at the North Pole.
This Sunday, December 10 is “Dewey Decimal System Day.”  It would be a great day to learn more about the Dewey system we use to organize nonfiction works.  But don’t take my word for it; check it out yourself!
The volunteers who manage the Library are committed to providing a highly beneficial service to our patrons and would like to learn your opinions.  The Librarians keep track of some statistics, like how many people visit the Library each day, and how many children’s books are checked out each day.  We know why we keep those records, but perhaps you know reasons we should do more?  You might want to help us determine what actions we should take and our methods of gathering, sharing and analyzing that data?  In December of 2022 we had 111 people visit the Library.  The Tuesday morning Story Hours were well-attended by 17 children and seven adults.  Only five people asked for information.  We loaned out 111 books, 79 of which were children’s books, and we added 12 books to the lending collection on our shelves.  Several people used the Library computers for a total of ten and a half hours.  Our copier was used for 55 copies and we gained one new Library card holder.
Remember, don’t get into a kerfuffle and cry or pout because soon it will be Christmas Day!
