Pirates lose 3
The Prairie Pirates had a tough week with 3 league losses. On Tuesday, Dec. 5 they traveled to Lapwai and lost 34-61. On Saturday, Dec. 9, Troy came from behind to beat them 46-49 at Cottonwood. Finally on Monday Dec. 11 they traveled to Kamiah and lost 31-55.
At Lapwai
In the game at Lapwai the Pirates hung with the Wildcats until the 3 minute mark of the second quarter. Trenton Lorentz goes for a lay-up at Lapwai.
Lapwai opened the game with a 3-15 run as Lapwai star Kase Wynott scored 11 of those 15 points including a game-opening dunk.
Prairie then got a 3-point play from Lee Forsmann and that kicked off a 9-2 run that got them back into the game.
Trenton Lorentz and Briggs Rambo each scored and Nate Forsmann added a basket after making a steal to make it 12-17. After 2 free throws by Wynott, Phil Schwartz made 2 free throws to make it 14-19 at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter a basket each by Riley Shears and Lee Forsmann and a 3-pointer by Matt Wemhoff got the Pirates within 2 points at 21-23.
Wynott then scored a 3 and a free throw but Rambo answered with a basket to make it 23-27 with 3:18 left in the half.
Lapwai then scored 12 straight points before Lorentz made a free throw in the final seconds as Lapwai took a 24-39 halftime lead.
Lapwai outscored Prairie 5-15 in the third quarter as Prairie’s only points were a basket each by Lee Forsmann and Shears and a free throw by Nate Forsmann.
Lapwai scored the first 7 points of the fourth quarter to invoke the running clock. Prairie then scored the final 5 points of the game on a basket each by Lee Forsmann and Rambo and a free throw by Nate Forsmann.
Lee Forsmann led the Pirates with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Rambo scored 7, Wemhoff 5, Shears and Nate Forsmann 4 each, Lorentz 3 and Schwartz 2.
Lapwai had a 25-33 edge on the boards.
Wemhoff, Lorentz and Lee Forsmann each had a steal. 7 different players each had 1 assist.
Prairie was 13 for 37 from the field, 35%, and 7 for 17 at the line, 41%. Lapwai was 23 for 50 from the field, 46%, and 10 for 12 at the line, 83%.
Wynott had 45 of Lapwai’s 61 points with Ahlius Yearout accounting for 11 of the other 16 points.
Lapwai also won the JV game in dominating fashion, 18-50.
Prairie was held scoreless in the first quarter as Lapwai out scored them 0-11.
Lapwai was up 0-5 before Collin Rae scored Prairie’s first points with 5:08 left in the half. Lapwai scored another 4 points before Levi Gehring scored a putback. Nate Forsmann scored a lay-up and Chris Schumacher sank a 3 to make it 9-19.
Lapwai led 9-21 at the half.
Lapwai scored the first 15 points of the second half to take a 9-36 lead.
Prairie then scored the last 9 points of the third quarter. Gehring made a free throw then Rae made 2 free throws on a technical foul by Lapwai. Max Rehder sank a pair of 3-pointers to close out the third quarter.
Lapwai then shutout Prairie in the fourth quarter.
Rehder led the scoring with 6 points with Rae scoring 4. Gehring and Schumacher scored 3 each and Forsmann scored 2.
Chase VonBargen led the JV’s in rebounds with 6 but Lapwai held a 24-39 advantage on the boards.
Ben Secrest, Gehring, VonBargen and Rehder each had 2 steals. VonBargen led the team with 2 assists.
The JV’s were 6 for 27 from the field, 22%, and 3 for 8 at the line, 38%. Lapwai was 19 for 56 from the field, 34%, and 10 for 26 at the line, 38%.
The C team also lost, 27-38.

Vs. Troy
In the game against Troy, the Trojans outscored Prairie in the 3 of the 4 quarters but despite that Prairie led much of the game.
Lee Forsmann goes for a lay-up against Troy.Troy outscored Prairie 4-10 in the opening quarter as Lorentz scored on a lob pass from Wemhoff and Lee Forsmann made 2 free throws.
Prairie started the second quarter with 5 straight points to get within 1 point on a putback by Logan Weber, a free throw by Lorentz and a putback by Noah Behler.
Troy then pushed the lead back to 5 at 11-16 before Lee Forsmann converted a 3-point play and added a putback to tie the game at 16.
Troy hit 2 of 4 free throws to retake the lead then Shears sank back to back 3-pointers and Nate Forsmann added a basket from just inside the arc to give Prairie a 24-18 lead.
After a Troy free throw, Nate Forsmann scored another perimeter shot to make it 26-19 at the half.
A basket by Lee Forsmann, a free throw by Lorentz and a lay-up by Behler made it 31-19 early in the third quarter.
A 2-7 run by Troy cut the lead back to 33-26. Two baskets by Rambo and a free throw by Lorentz put Prairie up 38-28 with 36 left in the third quarter.
Troy scored the final 4 points of the quarter and the first 2 of the fourth to pull within 4.
Wemhoff made a 3 with 7:30 left to make it 41-34. For the next 4 minutes everything went Troy’s way as the Trojans scored 9 straight to take a 41-43 lead.
Weber scored from the baseline to tie the game but Troy answered.
Lee Forsmann then came off a screen to sink a 3-pointer to give Prairie a 46-45 lead with 2:10 left. However, Prairie was unable to scored again. Troy took back the lead with 51 seconds left and added another basket with 11 seconds left to win by 3.
Lee Forsmann led Prairie in scoring with 14 points. Shears scored 8 and Lorentz scored 5. Behler, Nate Forsmann, Rambo and Weber each scored 4 and Wemhoff scored 3.
Prairie had a 41-36 edge on the boards led by Lee Forsmann who had 13 boards.
Schwartz had 3 steals and 3 assists while Shears also had 3 assists.
Prairie was 18 for 56 from the field, 32%, and 6 for 11 at the free throw line, 55%. Troy was 15 for 48 from the field, 31%, and 17 for 25 at the line, 68%.
Prairie dominated the JV game as they won 54-13.
Prairie led 13-4 by the end of the first quarter with Cole Duclos scored 4 points and VonBargen hitting a 3.
Prairie outscored Troy 20-2 in the second quarter. VonBargen, Schumacher, Schwartz and Nate Forsmann each had a 3-pointer in the quarter while Forsmann scored 7 points and Schumacher 5 in the period.
Troy scored 4 of the first 5 points in the second quarter then Prairie scored the final 14 to take a 48-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
Gehring had 5 points in the quarter while Secrest had 4 with 3 others scoring 2 each.
Rae scored 4 of Prairie’s 6 points in the running clock 4th quarter with VonBargen scoring the other 2.
Schumacher wound up as the leading scorer with 9 points with VonBargen scoring 8. Gehring and Forsmann scored 7 each while Secrest and Duclos scored 6 each. Rae scored 4, Schwartz 3 and Jackson Enneking and Rehder 2 each.
Prairie dominated the boards 40-24. Duclos led the Pirates with 12 rebounds.
Gehring and 5 steals while Schumacher and Schwartz had 3 each. Gehring had 3 assists and Schumacher, Schwartz and Kade Quintal had 2 each.
Prairie was 24 for 63 from the field, 38%, and 1 for 4 at the line, 25%. Troy was 5 for 29 from the field, 17%, and 3 for 6 at the line, 50%.

At Kamiah
At Kamiah the Pirates hung with the Kubs through most of the first quarter until a 0-17 run that went through most of the second quarter put the Kubs in control.
Prairie’s only lead came when Lee Forsmann scored a lay-up to make it 2-0. Kamiah then scored 7 straight to take the lead. A 3 by Schwartz cut the deficit to 2. The deficit stayed between 2 and 5 points until with 49 seconds left in the quarter Lee Forsmann scored to make it 15-17. Those were Prairie’s last points for over 8 minutes.
Kamiah scored 4 straight to take a 15-21 lead into the second quarter. They then scored the first 13 points of the second quarter to take a 15-34 lead. Lorentz finally broke through for Prairie with a lay-up with 39 seconds left in the half. Kamiah then got a buzzer beating 3 from Dave Kludt to make it 17-37 at the half.
The third quarter was low scoring on both sides as Kamiah scored just 7 points but the Pirates scored only 4, 2 each by Shears and Lee Forsmann.
In the fourth quarter the Kubs outscored the Pirates just 10-11. Lorentz scored 4 in the quarter while Lee Forsmann and Gehring added 2 each and Behler and Nate Forsmann each added a free throw.
For the game Lee Forsmann was the leading scorer with 9 points followed by Lorentz with 6 and Rambo with 5. Shears scored 4, Schwartz 3, Gehring 2 and Behler and Nate Forsmann 1 each.
Kamiah had a 24-32 edge on the boards with Lee Forsmann leading Prairie with 6 rebounds.
Wemhoff had 5 steals and Schwartz had 3 assists.
Prairie was 13 for 41 from the field, 32%, and 3 for 7 at the line, 43%. Kamiah was 23 for 45 from the field, 51%, and 4 for 12 at the line, 33%.
Kludt led the Kubs with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
The JV team lost a close one 45-48.
