Lady Pirates win 1 of 2 Vs. Lapwai Lapwai came out in a full
court press and jumped out to a 5-15 lead. Prairie’s points came on a
basket each by Kylie Schumacher and Sage Elven plus a free throw by
Lexi Schumacher.After falling behind by 10, Prairie closed out the first quarter with a pair of baskets by Kylie Schumacher to make it 9-15. Prairie then scored the first 5 points of the second quarter to cut the deficit to 1 point. Sydney Shears opened with a banked in free throw then Kylie Schumacher stole the ball and drove for a lay-up. Hailey Hanson then stole the ball and passed ahead to Lexi Schumacher who drove for a lay-up to make it 14-15. Two Lapwai baskets bracketed a basket by Lexi Schumacher. Prairie then took their first lead of the game. Kylie Schumacher scored to cut the deficit to 1 and then Lexi Schumacher scored to make it 20-19 with 1:43 left in the half. The lead didn’t last long as Lapwai made a 3 to take back the lead. Hanson tied it at 22 with a basket with 1:10 left. Lapwai then scored to take a 22-24 lead at halftime. Lapwai scored the first 4 points of the third quarter to push their lead to 6 then the two team traded baskets until Kylie Schumacher converted a 3-point play that cut the lead to 3 at 31-34 with 1:56 left in the quarter. Lapwai then scored the final 5 points of the third quarter and the first 7 of the fourth to take their biggest lead of the game at 31-46. Lexi Schumacher broke the 0-12 run with a putback that kicked off a 10-0 scoring run by Prairie. A steal by Hanson led to a basket by Shears. Kylie Schumacher converted another 3-point play and then hit 3 of 4 at the line to pull the Pirates back within 5 at 41-46. Unfortunately those were Prairie’s final points as Lapwai scored the game’s final 3 points at the free throw line. Kylie Schumacher wound up with 21 points to lead all scorers. Lexi Schumacher scored 11. Shears scored 5 and Hanson and Elven scored 2 each. Lapwai held a 42-47 edge on the board with Kylie Schumacher pulling down 13 to lead the Pirates while Elven added 12. Lexi Schumacher had 4 steals while Kylie Schumacher and Hanson had 3 each. Hanson had 4 assists while Elven and Shears had 3 each. Prairie was 17 for 38 from the field, 45%, and 8 for 19 at the line, 42%. Lapwai was 20 for 75 from the field, 27%, and 5 for 13 at the line, 38%. Prairie had 32 turnovers compared to 15 for Lapwai. Prairie won the JV game 44-26. Prairie jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a basket each by Nadia Cash and Ellie Nuxoll. Lapwai answered with 5 straight to take the lead. After each team scored a basket, Prairie took the lead for good on a lay-up by Nuxoll. Aubree Rehder followed with a free throw then Erica Schlader converted a 3-point play. Rehder stole the ball and scored to end the quarter with Prairie up 14-7. Lapwai scored the first 6 points of the second quarter to pull within 1 point but Prairie answered with 8 straight points to take a 22-13 lead. Schlader stole the ball and scored and then added 2 free throws. Cash scored a putback and then Avery Riener made 2 free throws. Lapwai closed out the first half scoring with a 3-pointer to make it 22-16 at the break. Lapwai opened the third quarter with a basket then Prairie scored 8 straight to take a 30-18 lead. Nuxoll scored 2 baskets and then Schlader and Aubree Rehder added a basket each. After 2 Lapwai free throws, Rehder sank a 3-pointer to kick off a 9-0 run to end the third quarter. Kennedy Reiner scored a basket then Avery Riener scored 2 baskets to give Prairie a 39-20 lead after 3 quarters. Lapwai got no closer than 16 in the fourth quarter as they were only able to outscore Prairie 5-6. Nuxoll had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to lead Prairie in both categories. Schlader scored 9 points and added 9 rebounds. Avery Riener scored 8 while Aubree Rehder scored 6. Kennedy Riener scored 5, Cash 4 and Halee Rowland 2. Prairie outrebounded Lapwai 57-46. Aubree Rehder and Cash each added 8 rebounds while Avery Riener had 7. Aubree Rehder had 7 steals while Cash had 5 and Schlader 4. Rehder also led in assists with 3. Troy Prairie got off to a strong start against Troy only to see the Trojans come back in the second half and make it a close game.Troy took a 2-4 lead then Prairie reeled of 12 straight points. Lexi Schumacher scored Prairie’s first basket then Hanson kicked off the scoring run with a 3-point play. A free throw by Lexi Schumacher was followed by a pair of baskets by Hanson. A putback by Shears and a lay-up by Kylie Schumacher made it 14-2. After a Troy basket, Elven scored a lay-up off a feed from Hanson. Shears then closed out the first half scoring with a putback that made it 18-6. Troy opened the second quarter with a 0-6 run to get back into the game. They cut the lead to 20-15 before prairie scored 6 straight to push the lead to 11. Lexi Schumacher drove in for a pair of baskets and Alli Geis hit a shot from just inside the 3-point line to make it 26-15. Troy closed out the half with a 3-pointer that made it 26-18 at the break. Troy hit another 3 to open the third quarter but Prairie responded with a basket each by Kylie and Lexi Schumacher. After 4 straight points by Troy, Geis hit a 3-pointer and Elven scored a layup to make it 35-25. A 2-7 run by Troy cut the led to 37-32 before Lexi Schumacher scored on a drive to the hoop. Troy closed the third quarter scoring with a free throw to make it 39-33. A putback each by Kylie Schumacher and Elven pushed the lead back to 10 to start the fourth quarter. Troy then went on a 2-11 run with Shears scoring Prairie’s only points as they got within 1 at 45-44 with 3:36 to play. With 3:27 left Hanson was fouled on a 3-point shot and made all 3 free throws to push the lead back to 4. Neither team scored for almost 2 minutes until Geis made a basket with 1:30 left to make it 50-44. Troy scored a free throw with 18 seconds left but Lexi Schumacher then made the second of 2 free throws with 15 seconds left to make it 51-45. Troy scored with 9 seconds left to cut the lead to 4 but that was it. Lexi Schumacher scored 12 to lead the Pirates in scoring. Hanson was also in double figures with 10. Elven and Shears scored 8 each. Geis scored 7 and Kylie Schumacher, who battled foul trouble, scored 6. Troy had a 40-45 edge on the boards. Elven had 11 to lead the Pirates with Geis adding 9 rebounds. Kylie Schumacher had 8 steals while Geis had 5. Hanson had 5 assists and Lexi Schumacher had 3. Prairie was 21 for 62 from the field, 34%, and 6 for 11 at the line, 55%. Troy was 16 for 48 from the field, 33%, and 11 for 25 at the line, 44%.
