Patriots girls win 2, boys lose 2 This past week the St. John Bosco girls basketball team won a pair of games while the boys team lost two games. On Friday, Dec. 8, the two teams played Timberline at the Highland gym in Craigmont where the girls beat Timberline in what goes into the books as a JV game, 38-26. The boys meanwhile lost a league matchup against Timberline 31-60. On Saturday, Dec. 9 they hosted Nezperce at Highland in a pair of league games. The girls won 32-27 while the boys lost 47-60. Girls vs. Timberline Timberline has just 6
girls out for basketball this year, half sophomores and the other half
freshmen. They are playing a JV schedule only. St. John Bosco played
everyone but gave their freshmen and sophomore the bulk of the playing
time in their 12 point win. We don’t have any further details. Boys vs. Timberline In the boys game the
Spartans took control early hitting a pair of 3-point baskets to take a
quick 0-6 lead. Bosco got on the board when Levi Wassmuth made the
second of 2 free throws. After another 3 by Timberline, Wassmuth made 2 free throws to make it 3-9. Timberline outscored Bosco 3-11 the rest of the quarter for a 6-20 lead at the quarter break. Levi Wassmuth added another free throw while Nathan Wassmuth scored Bosco’s first basket of the game. Bosco opened the second quarter with a 6-1 run to get within 9 points as Stallone Hoene scored 2 baskets and Conner Nuxoll added 1. Timberline then scored 6 straight before Bosco closed out the half with a free throw by Noah Beckman and a basket by Hoene to make it 15-27 at the half. Timberline scored the first 5 points of the second half before Levi Wassmuth scored a lay-up. After another Timberline basket, Nathan Wassmuth sank a free throw and Beckman scored a basket to make it 20-34. Timberline outscored the Patriots 2-7 the rest of the quarter with Beckman scoring Bosco’s 2 points on a lay-up. Timberline outscored Bosco 9-19 in the fourth quarter with Hoene scoring 2 baskets. Tommy Rose and Beckman each added a basket and Nuxoll made a free throw after getting fouled at the final buzzer. Hoene was Bosco’s leading scorer with 10 points. Beckman scored 7and Levi Wassmuth 6. Nuxoll and Nathan Wassmuth scored 3 each and Rose scored 2. Timberline had a 34-44 advantage on the boards. Levi Wassmuth led the Patriots with 8 rebounds while Hoene had 6. Levi Wassmuth had 3 steal while Rose, Cody Weckman and Nathan Wassmuth had 2 each. Rose and Weckman each had 2 assists. The Patriots were 12 for 47 from the field, 26%, and 7 for 20 at the line, 35%. Timberline was 23 for 60 from the field, 38%, and 7 for 14 at the line, 50%. 7-15 lead by the end of the first quarter and stretched it to 17-30 by
halftime. Bosco played even with the Nighthawks in the second half as
each team scored 14 in the third quarter and each team scored 16 in the
fourth quarter.Levi Wassmuth led the Patriots in scoring with 11 points while Hoene was also in double figures with 10 points.
