Prairie girls basketball awards were handed out Wednesday, March 13. Lady Pirates lose twice The Prairie Lady Pirates softball team lost a pair of league games this past week. On Thursday, March 14, they traveled to Kooskia where they lost to C.V. 3-23 in 5 innings. On Monday, March 18, they traveled to Kendrick and lost 1-18 in 4 innings. At C.V. Prairie got off to a good
start at C.V. as Clarise Rehder led off and reached on a passed ball on
strike 3. Ivy Walker followed with a single to right with Rehder
advancing to third. Walker stole second and then a wild pitch allowed
Rehder to score with Walker moved to third. After a strikeout, a passed
ball during a walk to Kaylie Lockett allowed Walker to score.In the bottom of the first a hit batsman, walk and error allowed C.V. to score a run. Prairie still led 2-1 going into the second inning. C.V. struck out the side in the second although Erica Schlader reached on a passed ball on strike 3 so the C.V. pitcher actually had 4 strikeouts in the inning. The bottom of the second is where things came unraveled for Prairie. C.V.’s first 7 hitters all reached base although they didn’t get their first hit of the game until the fifth batter of the inning. C.V. added 2 more hits in the inning as they scored 6 runs to take the lead. Walker led off the third inning by reaching on a passed ball on strike 3 but the next 3 hitters all struck out. C.V. then put up 11 runs in the bottom of the third on 6 hits, 3 walks and 3 errors. In the fourth inning Kadence Kalmbach was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and stole second. After 2 strikeouts, Schlader was walked before the inning ended on another strikeout. C.V. scored 5 more in the bottom of the fourth. Pitcher Lockett walked the first 3 batters then Ember Martin was brought in to pitch. She gave up a couple of hits and a walk as C.V. added 5 more runs to take a 2-23 lead into the top of the fifth. Walker led off the fifth with her second hit of the game. She stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Martin reached on an error. Grace Uhlenkott was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kalmbach hit a ground ball and Walker scored on the ensuing error. That made the final score 3-23. Prairie had just 2 hits, both by Walker. C.V. had 12 hits. Lockett gave up 20 runs in 3+ innings on 10 hits with1 strikeout, 9 walks and 3 hit batsmen. Martin gave up 3 runs on 2 hits with 1 walk in 1 inning of work. Prairie 2 0 0 0 1— 3 2 7 C.V. 1 6 11 5 x—23 12 2 At Kendrick The Lady Pirates continued to struggle in the game at Kendrick as they scored just 1 run on 4 hits.Despite that they trailed just 1-5 after 3 innings then Kendrick exploded for 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth to end the game on the 15-run mercy rule. Prairie tallied their lone run in the top of the third inning. Collecting hits for the Pirates were Walker, Schlader, McKenzie Mizer and Schlader. Lockett pitched for Prairie and gave up 17 hits.
