To the Library and Beyond
This week Joan reviewed a nonfiction book titled The Search For Amelia Earhart written by Fred Goerner and published in 1966.  Amelia Earhart was one of the first female airplane pilots.  In 1937 she and her navigator, Fred Noonan attempted their first “around-the-world” flight.  Author Goerner offers his account of the five years he spent searching for evidence regarding the disappearance of the pilot, navigator and plane.  After their last recorded location, their flight took them across the Western Pacific Ocean and the author searched that area – the Marshall Islands, Guam, and Saipan.  Partially due to the lack of any substantial evidence, the author concludes that owing to the presence of Japanese in the area at that time, Earhart and Noonan were probably captured on Saipan and imprisoned and did not survive.
