Cottonwood City Council meets The Cottonwood City Council held their November meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Dodd Snodgrass of CEDA was present to update them on the commerce grant for the water project. The costs for the well #5 grant came in less than expected due to the lack of lead found in the reservoir. Later in the meeting the council approved a grant administration contract with CEDA for the well #5 block grant. A decision and order granting a conditional use permit for Jessica Bush was approved for a temporary daycare in the former Twins Bar building. A catering permit was approved for Rodonna’s for a Syringa Hospital event on Dec. 13 at the Cottonwood Community Hall. The council also approved a Hall fee waiver for the Senior Class 2025 Safe & Sober Party. Amy Manning of III-A Insurance reviewed the city’s insurance for the past year. A contract was approved for GeoProfessional Innovation for taking 5 more core samples to test the rock underneath the sewer lagoons. They also will add monitoring of the wells. A general engineering contract with JUB Engineering was reviewed and approved. Council meeting dates for 2025 were reviewed and approved. They appear below. Action on a preliminary plat approval for the schoolyard subdivision was tabled. Ordinance #268 was read and approved. It deals with open container exemptions on public property. A summary of the ordinance appears on page 7 of this week’s Chronicle. Pat Enneking talked about the lead and copper inventory and said it was approved by the DEQ. In the water report Gus Hoene reported the city pumped 3,312,400 gallons of water in October and sold 2,895,700 for a loss of 14.11%. Water services were completed in the area below Columbia Grain. These included a hydrant that was replaced and a water service line that was replaced. In the sewer report Brett Miller reported the agriforest is done with reuse for the season. There were 2 violations on the reuse site last month with high pH causing algae growth. Amy Uptmor of JUB Engineering reported she has been working with DEQ to come up with options. In the street report Kristy Holthaus reported new culvert has been installed at A Street and 2nd South. In Land and Buildings Linda Nida reported the broken toilet at the Pavilion has been replaced. Nida reported the fire department had 2 calls. One was a fire at a chicken coop and the other was a vehicle accident. The council adjourned to an executive session discussing acquiring of property not owned by a public agency. After reconvening to open session action on the property purchase was tabled.
