To the Library and Beyond Remember, on Tuesday 17 December, Santa will be visiting the Library for Story Hour (10 – 11 AM) and he’ll have gifts for the children. Prairie Community Library will be CLOSED the week of Christmas, December 24th and December 26th; the Library will return to regular hours New Year’s Eve and 2 January. Beginning Saturday 4 January the Library will be OPEN on Saturdays from 10 AM till 3 PM. Joan wants to see you students; bring your games to play with your friends for a fun time. Joan reviewed the 2005 book Marley & Me by John Grogan – remembering 13 years with Marley, his golden Labrador retriever. The author relates stories of life with Marley from puppy-hood through old age. Marley was very large at 97 pounds, and very rambunctious, with a common canine talent for getting into trouble – chewing through screen doors, breaking furniture, swallowing bad stuff, and such misdeeds. Mr. Grogan exercised his sense of humor to compose a realistic look at the challenges of raising and living with a large, exuberant male dog. December is Read A New Book Month, and Library volunteers may be thinking about promoting “environmental and economic sustainability, urban infrastructure, social equity, and municipal government.” “Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action.” On Saturday the 21st, Winter begins; it is also National Crossword Puzzle Day and National Short Story Day. In 2022 the Library loaned 1,518 children’s Items; January through September of 2023, volunteers served 1,735 patrons. Prairie Community Library strives to recognize changes in patron preferences and provide enhanced services in response to current trends. Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com. “Volunteering provides us with a sense of purpose and helps enhance emotional well-being.” Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service. Thank you all! | COTTONWOOD
