Lady Pirates win 2 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates won 2 of their 3 games this past week. They started with an 84-30 league win over Clearwater Valley at Kooskia on Thursday, Dec. 12. On Friday, Dec. 13, they picked up their first loss of the season as they lost 26-37 to Oakley at New Plymouth. On Saturday, Dec. 14 they bounced back with a 39-23 win over Grace, also at New Plymouth.
At C.V.
In the game at C.V. the Lady Pirates came out firing as they raced to a 36-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. They backed off in the second quarter and worked their bench players in as they led 52-17 at the half.
A 25-8 third quarter made it 77-25 after 3 quarters and led to a running clock in the fourth quarter.
They outscored C.V. 7-6 in the final frame.
Lexi Schumacher had a season high 35 points to lead the Pirates while Kylie Schumacher had a triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals. Sage Elven also scored in double figures with 19 points. Nadia Cash added 6 points while Sydney Shears scored 5, Hailey Hanson and Ellie Nuxoll 3 each and Mia Anderson 2.
C.V. had enough players this year that a 2 quarter JV game was played with Prairie winning 43-6.

Vs. Oakley at New Plymouth
Prairie traveled to New Plymouth for games against a pair of schools that they played in last year’s state tournament. Lexi Schumacher with the ball against Oakley. Also shown is Sydney Shears.
On Friday they played Oakley, a team they beat in the third place game last year.
Oakley got the ball off the tap and went down and scored and never trailed in the game.
Prairie was down 0-4 when Lexi Schumacher scored to put them on the board. Oakley responded with a basket and a 3-pointer for a 2-9 lead.
Prairie was getting good shots but just couldn’t get them to fall, particularly from Sage Elven, who is usually money within 10 feet of the basket. She had several open looks and attempted shots she normally makes way more often than not but just couldn’t get them to go through the hoop.
Kylie Schumacher scored to make it 4-9 and after 2 Oakley free throws, Lexi scored again to make it 6-11. Oakley scored to make it 6-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Neither team was able to score much in the second quarter as Prairie was 1 for 12 from the field and 0-3 from the line while Oakley was 2 for 14 and 0 for 2. Lexi Schumacher had Prairie’s only basket of the quarter.
Oakley led 8-17 at the half.
Oakley opened the third quarter with 2 free throws. Prairie then put together a 6-0 run as Kylie Schumacher made a putback, Lexi Schumacher sank a 3 and after a steal by Elven, Hanson made the second of 2 free throws to cut the deficit to 5 at 14-19. That was as close as Prairie would get as Oakley then scored 5 straight to push the lead to 10.
Nuxoll came off the bench to provide a bit of a spark as she scored a lay-up and then hit 1 of 2 free throws to make it 17-24. Oakley then scored to make it 17-26 after 3 quarters, the same margin they had at halftime.
In the fourth quarter Oakley opened with a 3 and scored a 2 after Lexi scored a runner. Down 19-31, Prairie put together a 7-2 run to get within 26-33 with 1:50 left. Elven finally broke into the scoring column with a third chance putback and Lexi drove to the hoop for a lay-up to make it 23-31.
After 2 Oakley free throws. Lexi Schumacher scored 2 of 4 free throws and Elven added a free throw to get within 7 but that was the last Prairie would score. Oakley added 2 free throws and a basket to close out the game.
Lexi Schumacher scored 15 to lead the Pirates while Kylie Schumacher scored 4. Elven and Nuxoll scored 3 each and Hanson scored 1.
Oakley played strong defense but Prairie’s struggles to hit shots contributed more to the loss.
Rebounding was nearly even as Oakley had a 41-42 edge. Elven had 15 to lead the Pirates.
Kylie Schumacher and Elven each had 4 steals and Elven and Hanson each had 2 assists.
Prairie was 10 for 50 from the field, 20%, and 5 for 13 at the line, 38%. Oakley was 13 for 44 from the field, 30%, and 8 for 18 at the line, 44%.
The JV team was a low scoring game 24-19.
Prairie scored first on a free throw by Mia Anderson, After an Oakley basket, Prairie took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Reagan Brannan. Anderson followed with a basket for a 6-2 lead.
After an Oakley basket, Anderson scored again and Zoey Behler scored on a putback for a 10-4 lead. Oakley scored to make it 10-6 after 1 period.
Prairie outscored Oakley 4-0 in the second quarter. Beka Schumacher scored a free throw less than a minute into the quarter. The only other points of the quarter came on a 3 by Anderson at the 2:38 mark.
Prairie was 1 for 9 shooting and 1 for 4 at the line in the quarter while Oakley was 0 for 8 and 0 for 4.
Brannan scored a putback to open the third quarter scoring. Oakley then scored 4 straight points with some help from Schumacher who scored a lay-up in Oakley’s basket at the 5:06 mark.
Alli Rambo scored a free throw then Oakley scored 2 more baskets to putll within 3 at 17-14 with 2:32 left in the quarter. Schumacher then scored a basket for her own team to make it 19-14 after 3 quarters.
Blake Uhlenkott scored a bank shot to open the fourth quarter scoring and then Brannan added a free throw for a 22-14 lead with 5:00 left.
Oakley scored 5 straight points to again pull within 3 at 22-19 with 1:30 left. Prairie scored the only points in the final 1:30 on a lay-up by Schumacher off an inbounds feed from Erica Schlader with 30 seconds left.
Anderson scored 8 to lead the JVs with Brannan scoring 6, Schumacher 5, Uhlenkott and Behler 2 each and Rambo 1.
Prairie dominated the boards 60-34 with Brannan pulling down 23 rebounds. Behler added 9 rebounds while Rambo had 8.
Schlader, Anderson and Brannan each had 3 steals while Schumacher had 3 assists.
Prairie was 9 for 60 from the field, 15%, and 4 for 16 at the line, 25%. Oakley was 9 for 38 from the field, 24%, and 1 for 15 at the line, 7%. Their only free throw made was their final attempt with 1:47 left to play.

Vs. Grace
Prairie started off the game against defending state champion Grace by outscoring them 10-0 in the first quarter.
Hanson got the Pirates started with a 3-pointer. Kylie Schumacher then scored a free throw and a basket. Elven scored on a putback and closed out the first quarter with another basket, obviously able to get some shots to drop in this game.

Grace finally scored at the 4:50 mark of the second quarter and that got them going for a 2-8 run. Prairie’s only points in the run were a putback by Kylie Schumacher.
Elven scored a free throw at the 1:04 mark but Grace then added a basket to make it 15-10 at the half.
Kylie Schumacher scored a pair of lay-ups to start the second half and give Prairie a 19-10 lead.
After a basket by Grace, Lexi Schumacher and Elven each scored to make it 23-12. Grace then converted a 3-point play and added a basket to pull within 7 but Lexi Schumacher closed out the third quarter with a drive for a lay-up to make it 25-16.
Grace scored to open the fourth quarter then Prairie went on a 13-3 run to put the game out of reach.
Hanson featured big in the run as she scored on 4 straight shots for 8 of the 13. She started the run with a putback and Lexi Schumacher followed with a lay-up. Hanson scored a lay-up following a steal to make it 31-18. After a 3 by Grace, Hanson scored on a drive to the hoop as did Anderson. Hanson then stole the ball again and scored a lay-up. Lexi Schumacher added a free throw for a 38-21 lead with 3:48 to play.
Scoring stalled out at that point as the next basket made was by Grace with 25 seconds left. Nuxoll scored the game’s final point at the free throw line.
Hanson scored 11 points to lead all scorers. Elven and Kylie Schumacher each scored 9. Lexi Schumacher scored 7 while Anderson scored 2 and Nuxoll 1.
Prairie had a 49-39 advantage on the boards led by Elven who had 19 rebounds.
Hanson had 6 steals while Elven had 5 steals and 3 assists.
Prairie was 17 for 51 from the field, 33%, and 4 for 14 at the line, 29%. Grace was 9 for 55 from the field, 16%, and 4 for 4 at the line.
Prairie is now 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in league play.
The JV team also won, 34-27.
Prairie raced out to leads of 6-0 and 13-2. Anderson scored Prairie’s first 4 points and Beka Schumacher scored on an inbounds play to make it 6-0. After a basket by Grace, Anderson hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Reagan Brannan added a free throw to make it 13-2.
Grace scored to make it 13-4 at the end of the first quarter.
Brannan scored from midrange to open the second quarter and  Gracer answered. Brannan scored another basket then Grace answered with 5 straight points to cut the margin to 6 at 17-11.
Brannan scored again with 5 seconds left to make it 19-11 at the half
Gracer started the third quarter with a 3 and a 2 to pull within 3 at 19-16.
Prairie then scored 10 straight points. Behler started the run with a pair of free throws. Schumacher scored a free throw then Anderson scored a lay-up. Brannan scored a putback then Behler converted a 3-point play to make it 29-16.
Grace then scored to break and 5 ½ minute scoring drought. Anderson then closed out the quarter with a basket to make it 31-18.
Schumacher opened the fourth quarter with a free throw then Grace went to full-court pressure and forced several turnovers that set up a 0-9 scoring run. They cut the lead to 32-27 with 2:10 left. However they didn’t score again and Schumacher scored the game’s final basket.
Anderson scored 14 to lead all scorers. Brannan scored 9, Schumacher 6 and Behler 5.
Prairie had a 42-24 rebounding advantage led by Brannan who had 12 and Schumacher who had 9.
Brannan had 7 steals and Schlader had 4 assists.
The JVs were 13 for 48 from the field, 27%, and 6 for 13 at the line, 46%. Grace was 11 for 38 from the field, 29%, and 4 for 12 at the line, 33%.
