To the Library and Beyond The Library will be closed Tuesday 31 December, but we will be open Thursday 2 January. Joan will have the Library open on Saturday 4 January from 10 AM till 3 PM and she wants you students to bring your friends and your games to take advantage of the spaces in our Library. Any items originally due on 31 December have been extended until 2 January. Remember you can return books in the book drop at the back, north end of the Community Hall building. If books won’t fit through the slot, please leave us a phone message and your book will be renewed until you can return it inside. Joan reviewed the book, Sweet Willy, a Noble and Absurd Undertaking, about Dog Bark Park, created by Frances Conklin and Dennis Sullivan in Cottonwood, Idaho. The author tells the story of meeting Dennis and their marriage, the development of their business and constructing the building-sized beagle, Sweet Willy. This is a fascinating story demonstrating their creativity and the pursuit and fulfillment of their dream with a thriving business and national and worldwide renown. Frances lists the many times they have received national recognition, including stories of Sweet Willy in popular magazines, on national news shows and other widely publicized television programs. We’re wrapping up the year remembering to focus on enhancing the sustainability of our community and kicking off January with celebration of the New Year. Tuesday, December 31 is New Year’s Eve; Wednesday, January 1 is New Year’s Day and Copyright Law Day; Thursday, January 2 is National Science Fiction Day; Saturday, January 4 is National Trivia Day and World Braille Day. In 2021 Prairie Community Library served 2,075 patrons and loaned 2,479 items. “Volunteering can provide job prospects and helps us meet and make new friends.” The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library aspire to encourage everyone to visualize what they believe to be most important for the future.
