Patriot teams win 1 of 4 games
The St. John Bosco basketball teams won just 1 of 4 games last week. They hosted Highland on Tuesday, Dec. 17 where the girls lost 24-26 and the boys picked up their first win of the season, 50-38. On Thursday, Dec. 19, they traveled to Genesee where the girls lost 61-68 and the boys lost 36-54.
Girls vs. Highland
In the girls game Bosco built a lead then saw Highland rally to win in the fourth quarter.
Highland led just 3-5 after the first quarter but Bosco outscored them 11-5 in the second quarter to take a 14-10 lead at halftime. Bosco outscored them 8-7 in the third quarter to make it 22-17 after 3 quarters. Highland then outscored Bosco 2-9 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Noelle Chmelik led Lady Patriots in scoring with 8 points. Julia Wassmuth scored 7 while CeCe Remacle and Savannah Perrin scored 3 each, Catherine Seubert scored 2 and Sarah Waters scored 1.
Wassmuth had the only 3-pointer in the game.

Girls at Genesee
In a high scoring game the Genesee girls sank eight 3-pointers in a 7-point win.
Genesee jumped out to a 0-8 lead on the Patriots before Wassmuth put them on the board with a putback.
After another Genesee basket, Waters scored a basket and 2 free throws to cut the lead to 4. They would get the lead down to 3 twice, at 10-13 after a basket by Chmelik and 12-15 after a basket by Seubert. Genesee then went on a 2-10 run to take a 14-25 lead.
The teams then pretty much traded baskets through the end of the first quarter that saw Genesee holding a 22-31 lead. Waters had scored 10 and Seubert 8 in just the first quarter.
The scoring pace slowed considerably in the second quarter. A basket by Miah Mager and a free throw by Perrin cut the lead to 6. Genesee then went on a 0-8 run to take a 25-39 lead. Bosco answered with a 7-0 run on 2 baskets by Wassmuth and a 3 by Remacle. Genesee then closed out the first half with a pair of baskets for a 32-43 lead at the break.
Genesee scored the first 7 points of the second half to take a 32-50 lead. Remacle scored a basket and a 3 to cut the lead to 13. After trading baskets for awhile, another 3 by Remacle got them within 12 at 47-59.
After a Genesee basket, Perrin and Remacle each scored a basket to get within 10 at 51-61. Genesee then scored 5 straight to go up 15. Perrin scored at the buzzer to make it 53-66 after 3 quarters.
Bosco played full court defense much of the second half and it started to pay off some in the fourth quarter. The Patriots held Genesee scoreless until the final seconds but could only manage to take 8 points off the lead as they got within 5 at 61-66 with 2:43 left. They had chances but couldn’t score anymore after that with Genesee adding a pair of free throw with 4 seconds left for the final 7 point margin.
Remacle led the scoring with 16 points which included four 3-pointers. Seubert and Waters scored 13 each. Wassmuth scored 8, Perrin 7 and Chmelik and Mager 2 each.
Bosco had a 50-36 rebounding edge led by Waters with 12 while Chmelik had 8.
Waters had 4 steals and Wassmuth had 9 assists. Perrin and Seubert each added 5 assists.
Bosco was 26 for 60 from the field, 43%, and 5 for 15 at the line, 33%. Genesee was 23 for 64 from the field, 36%, and 14 for 20 at the line, 70%.
The Lady Patriots are now 3-4 overall and 1-4 in league play.
The JV team won their 2 quarter game 23-16.

Boys at Genesee
In the boys game at Genesee the Patriots took a 4-1 lead on a basket each by Cody Weckman and Tommy Rose. Genesee then sank 3 straight 3 pointers to take a 4-10 lead. A basket each by Heny Baldwin and Nathan Wassmuth against a Genesee basket made it 8-12 at the end the first quarter.
Baldwin made 2 free throws to open the second quarter and Weckman scored to tie the game at 12. Genesee scored then Weckman sank 2 free throws to tie it at 14. Genesee then went on a 0-9 run to take the lead for good.
Weckman and Baldwin each added a basket late in the half but the Patriots trailed 18-25 at the break.
Genesee put the game away to start the third quarter with a 2-15 run. They scored 5 straight then Weckman scored on a drive. Genesee then scored 10 straight for 20-40 lead.
Rose made a free throw and then a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 16 but Genesee scored 2 free throws to take a 24-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
Bosco was unable to put any kind of rally together in the fourth quarter as Genesee answered each time they would score. The closest they got was 16 after Rose opened the fourth quarter with a basket.
Weckman wound up with 16 points to lead the Patriots. Rose scored 8, Baldwin 6, Wassmuth 4 and Ignatius Parmentier 2.
Bosco had a 53-41 rebounding edge led by Wassmuth with 12. Baldwin was also in double figures with 10 while Weckman had 9.
Connor Nuxoll, Weckman, Wassmuth and Parmentier each had 1 steal. Weckman had 3 assists.
The Patriots were 15 for 62 from the field, 24%, and 5 for 14 at the line, 36%. Genesee was 19 for 59 from the field, 32%, and 12 for 23 at the line, 52%.
The Patriots are now 1-5 overall and in league play.
