Highland ends Lady Patriots' season
The St. John Bosco girls team won 1 of 2 games last week. Unfortunately the loss ended their season. On Thursday, Feb. 6, they held Senior Night against the Clarkston JV and won, 52-34. On Saturday they played Highland at Craigmont in a loser-out District game and lost 41-53.
On Senior Night Julia Wassmuth, Noelle Chmelik, Rachel Sonnen and Sarah Waters were all honored in their final home game.
The boys team also played the Clarkston JV with lone senior Glen Parmentier honored with his family. We have no further information on that game.
Girls Vs. Clarkston JV
Senior Julia Wassmuth scored 22 points to lead the Patriots to their win.
Bosco led 17-6 at the end of the first quarter and 34-13 at the half. Clarkston tried to rally back into the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Patriots 7-16 but still trailed 41-29 entering the fourth quarter. Bosco then held off the Bantams by outscoring them 11-5 in the fourth.
In addition to Wassmuth, Savannah Perrin and Sarah Waters each scored 7 points. CeCe Remacle scored 4 but suffered an injury. Rachel Sonnen, Noelle Chmelik, Brianne Nuxoll, Madeline Wassmuth, Miah Mager and Catherine Beckman scored 2 points each.
Waters led the team in rebounds with 11 while Sonnen had 8.
Julia Wassmuth and Waters each had 4 steals while Remacle had 3. Chmelik was the assists lead with 4.

District vs. Highland
It didn’t help the Lady Patriots cause that one of their better ball-handlers and outside shooters, Remacle, was unable to play due to an injury. Julia Wassmuth puts up a shot in the District game at Highland.
St. John Bosco led at the end of the first quarter but Highland took over in the second on their way to eliminating the Patriots from the District Tournament.
Highland scored the first 5 points in the game before Wassmuth made a pair of free throws to put the Patriots on the board. After another Highland basket, Perrin made 2 free throws and Waters scored on an inbounds play to make it 6-7.
After a free throw by Highland, Perrin tied it with a lay-up and Chmelik gave the Patriots their first lead at 10-8 with 1:08 left in the first quarter. Highland tied it but Sonnen put the Patriots back on top with a lay-up. A Highland free throw made it 12-11 at the end of the quarter.
Highland started the second quarter with 7 straight points to take the lead for good. Bosco was scoreless until the 4:05 mark when Wassmuth made a basket. Highland answered with a lay-up. Mager scored a basket but Highland answered. Seubert made a pair of free throws to make it 18-22 but Highland scored the final 3 points of the half for an 18-25 lead.
Bosco got back within 3 to start the second half as Perrin made 2 free throws and Wassmuth scored a lay-up.
Highland scored and Waters answered to get the Patriots back within 3 at 24-27. A 3-pointer by Highland was answered with a free throw by Seubert. Highland then scored 2 baskets for a 9-point lead before Wassmuth closed the third quarter with a free throw. Bosco trailed by 8, 26-34 entering the fourth quarter.
Highland opened the fourth with a 2-10 run to stretch their lead to 16 at 28-44. Waters scored Bosco’s only basket in that run.
Bosco then tried to rally back with an 8-1 run as they got back within 9 at 36-45 with 3:08 to play. Waters and Wassmuth each scored a basket and a free throw in the run with Seubert adding 2 free throws.
Highland then scored a basket and 2 free throws to push their lead back to 13 at 36-49.
2 free throws by Seubert were answered with a basket by Highland. Waters scored a free throw but Highland answered with 2 free throws and there were now just 50 seconds left to play.
Wassmuth scored Bosco final basket of the season with 2 seconds left to cut the final margin to 12.
Wassmuth scored 12 to lead the Patriots while Waters was also in double figures with 10. Seubert scored 7, Perrin 6 and Chmelik, Mager and Sonnen 2 each.
Bosco had a 48-42 rebounding edge led by Seubert who had 19 rebounds while Wassmuth added 9 and Waters 8.
Seubert had 4 steals while Waters and Wassmuth had 3 each. Wassmuth led with 5 assists.
The Patriots were 12 for 55 from the field, 22%, and 17 for 28 at the line, 61%. Highland was 20 for 49 from the field, 41%, and 10 for 28 at the line, 36%.
Bosco ends their season with a record of 6-10.
