Lady Patriots win 4 of 5 The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots won a pair of home matches and also competed at the Timberline Tournament this past week. On Thursday, Oct. 3, they hosted Timberline and won in straight sets 27-25, 25-14, 25-22. On Saturday, Oct. 5 they traveled to Timberline for a tournament. They played 3 matches but we don’t have any scores. Finally on Monday, Oct. 7, they hosted Lapwai in a non-league match and won in straight sets 25-18, 25-23, 25-23. Vs. Timberline
Bosco came through a tight first set before asserting itself against Timberline of Weippe.
Sarah Waters (nine kills, 24 serve receives) and Rachel Sonnen (100% serving) led the way for the Patriots, who defeated the Spartans for a second time this season. Timberline won the JV match 25-23, 15-15. Timberline Tournament
Apparently the Patriots played Timberline, Clearwater
Valley and the Orofino JV. C.V. won the Tournament and beat Bosco in
straight sets. We believe Bosco defeated Timberline and the Orofino JV.
Vs. Lapwai
In the opener against Lapwai, Bosco fell behind early
on. They were down 3-5 when Waters scored a sideout kill. Julia
Wassmuth then serve Bosco into the lead. Waters had 2 kills and
Wassmuth 2 aces as Bosco took an 8-5 lead. They never gave it back.
Waters had 2 more kills while Presley Schoo had a kill and 2 aces and Savannah Perrin and Catherine Seubert each added a kill as Bosco built an 18-9 lead. Lapwai then got their first serving points in some time as they scored 5 straight to cut the lead to 4. A kill each by Wassmuth and Waters pushed the lead back to 6 at 20-14. Bosco led 22-18 when Waters scored a sideout kill. Then Rachel Sonnen served two aces to win the set. Bosco fell behind 0-4 in the second set and trailed until Lapwai bricked a serve to make it 12-14. Wassmuth then took over at the service line and served 9 straight points to give Bosco their first lead. She had 4 aces in that run while Perrin had a kill and a block and Waters, Seubert and CeCe Remacle each had a kill. Lapwai then answered back with 6 straight to cut the lead to just 1 point at 21-20 before missing a serve. Perrin served an ace to make it 23-20. Lapwai scored 2 to pull within 1 but Waters scored a sideout kill to get to set point. A bad serve cut the lead to 1 again but Waters then scored the set winning kill. Again Bosco fell behind to start the third set at 0-2 and 1-3. A kill by Perrin followed by an ace by Wassmuth and a kill by Remacle gave Bosco their first lead. Lapwai took back the lead until a kill by Sonnen sent Remacle to the service line. She served 3 straight aces to put Bosco back on top and 9-7. Bosco held the lead until Lapwai put together a 5-point streak to take a 16-17 lead. A bad serve and then a kill by Remacle made it 18-17. Lapwai then scored 4 straight to take an 18-21 lead. A net violation sent Remacle back to the service line at 19-21. Remacle served 2 aces while Noelle Chmelik and Seubert each added a kill for a 23-21 lead. Lapwai scored a sideout but Schoo scored a kill to get to match point at 24-22. Lapwai fought off that point but Chmelik then scored the match-winning kill on a second touch spike. For the match Waters had 14 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Perrin had 8 kills, including a block and 1 ace. Chmelik had 5 kills, 17 assists and 3 aces. Wassmuth had 4 kills, 9 assists and 8 aces. Remacle had 4 kills, 8 assists and 6 aces. Seubert had 4 kills. Schoo had 3 kills and 2 aces. Sonnen had 1 kill and 2 aces. Bosco is now 7-6 on the season and 4-4 in league play. Bosco also won the JV match 25-15, 25-18. The opening set went back and forth early on with 5 ties and 2 lead changes until Madeline Wassmuth scored a kill on a free ball to make it 13-12. Remacle then served 4 straight aces for a 17-12 lead. After 4 straight sideouts, Perrin served 2 aces to make it 21-14. After a Lapwai sideout, Catherine Beckman scored a sdieout kill and Wassmuth served out the set. She had an ace while Remacle scored 2 kills for the final 2 points of the set. In the second set Wassmuth had a pair of aces for an early 6-3 lead. It was tied at 9-9 when Perrin scored a sideout kill and Schoo then served 6 straight aces to open up a 16-9 lead for the Patriots. After 4 straight sideouts, Wassmuth served an ace and Beckman added a kill to make it 20-11. After 3 straight sideouts, Lapwai finally scored a service point but Schoo then scored on a service dig and Beckman was able to serve out the match. She had an ace then Perrin won a joust at the net.
