The District Spelling Bee for the 3rd-8th grade Prairie Pirates was held Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the Prairie Elementary Gym. Qualifiers for 3rd grade- Layla Arnzen and Oliver Lustig, 4th grade- Jade Lorentz and Gunner Chandler, 5th grade- Hailey Frei and Darby Fitch, 6th grade- Kallen Lockart and Kade Lockart, 7th grade- Corbyn Tacke and Mesa Graning, and 8th grade- Tate Uhlenkott and Ayla Ratcliff. There were 4 rounds and Tate Uhlenkott, top photo, spelled the championship word in the 5th round to win the spelling bee. He will move onto the regional spelling bee on Saturday, March 15th at LCSC. If by chance he can't represent the Pirates, Darby Fitch, lower photo, would step in for him as the 2nd place finisher! All 12 participants did a fantastic job today and they should be proud of their accomplishments! Good luck to Tate at the regional bee! Photos by Jon Rehder.
